Why does you feel it's necessary to?
It is necessary to keep flow if you are riding fixed (brakeless) I'm sure he does not mean every set of lights he comes across.
Just the ones that allow him to get through with out causing any upset to those in the vicinity. I assume so, because its the way I ride.
I'm pretty sure you have a picture of a rider just charging straight through everything without any care or thought in the world!
If you are a good rider you are thinking more than anyone else on the road at all times.
