  • Glad to hear that I had it right on Windows for the last 10 years.

Hell, the build-in Windows Firewall seemed to work pretty well, but I tend to download a free virus checker just to check every now and then.

  • New printer forces OS upgrade. I have Tiger and tried installing Snow Leopard (Upgrade DVD Version 10.6 2Z691-6557-A) but l get a message saying l need to upgrade to Leopard first. WTF??

  • User friendly..

your OS is five years old.
you need the full version of snow leopard. the upgrade only works from leopard.
    life's like that sometimes.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials ... totally rock solid and the best detection rates of the free AV software.. and only a couple of paid versions are better.

Aha! Off to the store tomorrow.

  • My old G4 Powerbook has died - it powers on but can't find the hard disk. Tried everything i can think of but it isn't working...

Anyone recommend a data recovery thing?

  • Have you got the original disk?

  • User friendly..

    Stop trolling cuntyflaps.

OS install disk? Not the original, but the one on the computer. Boots off DVD but Disk Utility can't see the hard disk. Think it's kaput. Would like to drag some data off it if poss though...

  • try target mode from another mac.
try file salvage or data rescue from another mac
if it has the click of death it's fucked.
hopefully its just bad housekeeping because you have never repaired permissions/applejacked..

  • try target mode from another mac.

the hold T firewire thing? doesn't show on the host computer.

don't know about this - I'll look it up, thanks.

nope... don't know what that means.

    but it's probably fucked.

  • they both look promising, thanks MrSmyth.
thought i would try reseating the HD just in case it got loose in my bag. didn't take any knocks though, only a 10min cycle trip :(

  • If anyone is running PGP WDE, don't install the OSX 10.6.5 update (released today from Apple), as it will fucking kill* your laptop.

    *technical term

  • Building myself a proper computer as we speak, just need graphic card, sound card, some RAM (at least 4GB) and a power supply.

As you said 'proper computer', I'm assuming you're making a hackintosh. If not you should =)

What will it do to my netbook, that's the question. Dare I find out? My desktop hac is fine with anything but the netbook's a bit fussy.

    Oh look, Mac GTA. Woo.

    Mac users are always happy..

By proper, I mean not fisher-price one.

  • Are you sure? There are some great offers on iPads:

Hmmm, wish they'd release GTA2 or a multiplayer version of Chinatown Wars. GTA lost it's charm for me when it went 3D. Top down FTW!

  • I fucking love Chinatown war, it's the perfect 21st Century GTA.

The 3D GTA was fun, just not GTA4 which were depressing and too much of a reality, but TBOGT brought it back.

Well that ain't going to happen because they GTA 1 & 2 can be downloaded for Free from Rockstars' Website for Windows XP and above.

  • But not for mac :(

  • what is involved in turning one of those little toshiba netbooks into a hackintosh?
a friend has bought one but is looking for somebody to do what ever it is you do to make it run snow leopard.

  • Any of you MAC heads got an airport card for a g3 tower kicking around? Or a usb WiFi dongle going cheap?
