  • hahaha - true

  • wish i could see it your way, but, even after trying, nah, its just lame, if you dont have/want brakes then find a suitable bar thats comfortable (but if your stuck with the attitude of riding a roady, its hard habit to change)

You mean we need to ride like we're operating a jackhammer with a stupidly narrow handlebar on a fixie skidder?

I'll stick to my 'roady attitude' that you aptly put it, thank you.

  • ^ Street cred rite there!

  • why has that photo got a giant Christmas pudding in the background?

  • As for IF, as lovely as the carbon one is, I rather have this one;

  • You mean we need to ride like we're operating a jackhammer with a stupidly narrow handlebar on a fixie skidder?

i'm not trying to antagonise you but i am not sure what you mean by 'stupidly narrow handlebar on a fixe skidder' maybe i come from a different culture perhaps..but it occurs to me that you may be referring to some type of road traveling MTB with an upright stance, which in turn offends you, ok , or the fashionable cut off (made from drop bars) type straight bars that are more for urban round the block, look cool type thing rather than an extended ride. ...if the latter then i think you hit upon part of my point, i appreciate that riding drop bars is comfy if you have done so for a while, but i also understand that sitting in the brake hoods is an easy (if not comfy) cop out, your not working in that posy much, your enjoying the scenery, if you find your in that posy all the time the cow horns are more comfy. so, having brake hoods on the bars still seems lame, it suggests you are trying to be part a cool fixie dude (but will never be) but cant shake the old road racer habits :)

  • those pics (you posted) didn't show when i answered, they look exceptionally cool !!!! (not practical !! --for me--but very cool looking)

  • those pics ... look exceptionally cool !!!!

    Which ones? Ed's ones?
    You're not serious, are you?

  • Which ones? Ed's ones?
    You're not serious, are you?

yeah, sure, its not me,... but i get a kick out of seeing them i wouldnt advise that type of thing, but in todays world.....

actually it reminds me of when i about 10 years old and crossed the road without looking, the driver that went sideways yelled all manner of abuse at me that i have never forgotten!!!

  • The green bike looks exceptionally retarded.

  • ^ id like to see how he uses those drops, with them pointing upwards like that! NUTS!

  • Incidentally there's a racer (back in the 90's I think) who put it like that so the bottom part support his arm while riding on the drop, work for him.

I'm sure that rider in the green bike isn't thinking of that mind.

  • ok back to porn!
im in love with Olmos at the moment, am in search for one that's around 50cm too.
love the colour of this one.
could be a repost. ah well.

  • No tape?

  • No tape?

    ^ good point!
then i guess at least it mustn't be a repost haha...

  • that nag has a pussy chainring on it. anti ;)

    i thought the same thing

  • All of the above, basically comes down to that old point that bar set up is a personal choice.

On my first 2 fixed I had drops with no hoods. Then I tried flat bars for a bit, and they were good, but I just missed the extra hand positions. Tried bullhorns, but aside from having a better hold/grip than you would have with drops, it just struck me that I was riding with one less hand position.

So now its drops, 2 hoods and a cross lever. A bit geeky, but very practical...

...black fizik now makes it even more practical. As for a rear caliper, I'm fucked if I'm forking out for another Ultegra caliper (and cabbles) to match the new front one.

  • but i also understand that sitting in the brake hoods is an easy (if not comfy) cop out, your not working in that posy much, your enjoying the scenery,

Have you actually watched a road race in the last decade? On the hoods is now the prime position, even under full power in a break, with the drops largely only used for out of the saddle sprints.

  • ...

    As for IF, as lovely as the carbon one is, I rather have this one;

    I'm SHOCKED!

You'd choose the one without the bike rack?...I mean I know the other one's got a stand, but still.

  • You still see a lot of people descending in the drops. Hand fatigue with extended breaking on the hoods on long fast descents plus being bucked around with crappy road surfaces is "not reassuring".

  • i thought the same thing

    think again then

  • Incidentally there's a racer (back in the 90's I think) who put it like that so the bottom part support his arm while riding on the drop, work for him.

I'm sure that rider in the green bike isn't thinking of that mind.

Seat Yates / Michael "Hutch" Hutchinson / whoever the ONCE guy was who tried to break the hours record (Igor G. de G., Abraham Olano, Melchor Mauri ) ???

  • So now its drops, 2 hoods and a cross lever. A bit geeky, but very practical...

Exactly what I'm going to go to soon on the commuter. And compact drops like that as well.

  • Yeah it's a nice set up. I went for wider ones than usual, so there's a bit more hand room for riding on the flats. Initially I wasn't that keen on the way compacts look, but they've grown on me.

  • You still see a lot of people descending in the drops.

True, that as well, plus a change of position to relieve stress from time to time. But I think my point stands.
