The metro's guide to the Sepnding Review mentioned that the BCH will still be extended, which is nice.

I just saw someone use one of the Boris bikes to try and escape from the Police - the guy was promptly run down by the Police van and apprehended! Just over Vauxhall bridge towards Victoria station.
Does this mean there will be a sudden rise in street crime now that Boris has put an easy access getaway vehicle on every street corner in Central London?
(I should probably add, I have only briefly read some of the above posts, so any overlap in comments is unintentional).

universities are not such academic places, people "researching" the benefits of using barclays cycle hire
"public transport in borough is awful"
"you can't say that, it's subjective"
"it doesn't even have a tube tho..."
"yes it does, borough"
"well, what about elephant and castle?"

the australian pronunciation of 'barclays' really grates.

Obviously on strike days it's no surprise you were hard pushed to find a bike don't know if it's been mentioned but there were 27,000 journeys made on the last strike day!
For the last couple of weeks I've had a buggered knee so have been getting the train to waterloo, no problem getting a bike (marsh street seems to always be near to full, but I check the phone as it's coming into the station just incase) and no problem docking right by work.
It's also great being able to pick up a bike when you've missed your last train and ride the couple of miles I would have otherwise had to walk to the nearest night bus at 3am.
They are unwieldy and other cyclists look down on you (although the faces change when I spin past people!)... But for the £4 to have a fob on your key chain just in case I think they are invaluable.

Not the best getaway vehicle as every journey is recorded and TfL have the user's contact details...would be like using your own car.

Yes, locking them somewhere other than docking stations just wouldn't work in London. The right decision was taken there.
I read somewhere that the reason a lot of Velibs were stolen was that the lock supplied was so easy to cut.
...mentioned above - sorry

I've discovered that with judicious timing I can cover 1.5 days of commute with the 24 hours... So that's £4 to cover a 5 day commute... so cheaper than the weekly pas's assuming you don't use the bikes on the weekend or during the day on the 2nd day of the week.
It would be even better if you did three day shift patterns!

In just over 11 weeks, an annual sub of £45 would be paid, and you could ride free for the remaining 39 weeks of the year.

Except, I'm only using them while my knee heals, on Monday I'll be back to doing 30 miles a day instead of just 6 to and from the station... But yeah if I was someone who had to use them daily, the yearly pas's would obviously be the way to go.
As it is I've already spent £8 more than I thought I would on hire bikes! Although I've got to admit to being smitten with them, my next build might be very much like a hire bike!

Just had an interesting 'meeting' with a representative of the Cycle Hire Scheme, heading east on Theobalds (13:46) ((Just before the crossroads with grays Inn))..... Me, in office attire, riding with the traffic at a good pace. Resresentative (for the purpose of this story, i will refer to him as cunt) about 6" off my back wheel, driving his van, texting on his Blackberry, not paying attention, I slow and move into the 'slow' lane as we approach the lights, and he drifts too close to me for comfort. So I stop, tap on his window, and ask him 'As a representative of Cycle Hire, should you erally be texting when driving, or should you be looking where your going?'
Cunt replies 'Yeh, but bruv, did I knock you off? whats your game, you've stopped in the middle of the road' (Not technically true, as I had one foot on the pavement)
After him trying to give me a earful of shit, I just said, 'Well, I hope you never lose any of your friends to some cunt that isnt paying attention when driving, because then you'll see things from my point of view'
He face dropped, he put his blackberry down, looked at his feet, and pulled away.
Class one tossrag.

Good stuff, but I can't help but think that if I tried that I'd be walloped in the mush.

I the first week of the bikes starting I was nearly taken out the Brois bike trailers twice! Both times they cut across me forcing me to the curb and nearly into the triailer itself! It was not a great bit of driving!

Surely they should supply helmets with the bikes? Someones gonna have a nasty accident and sue LBC on health and safety grounds!

Deff rate the new cycle lanes around town, keeps those damn car drivers off your back wheel, they should roll them out all over the country IMO.
I find them brillaint, been using them loads whenever I'm in the centre. Just moved and got a station right outside my house, can't see myslef using my own bike now in central london as these are far easier and you don't have to worry about getting your bike nicked.
A few times I've found it hard to return them as all the docks were full but managed to find one pretty close.
