so what's happening with cycling england then? i thought it was being shut down because the ponzi property bubble fueled by cheap credit and the vested interests of political parties and banks finally resulting in cuts to all non essential services.
shareholders and bonuses need to be paid so cycling england gets the chop?
{sorry got a bit political there}
That was mentioned in another topic, Cycling England gets the chop, but Bikeablitiy won't, at least that what they said.

A CRB is for 3 years and from personal experience is a waste of time. Having to have CRB for all my employees is an onerous task and most importantly does not protect anyone from those who we wish to protect. It is a sop to satsify those jobs worths who can't be bothered in actually assessing a candidate. It only takes one act whether you have a record or not. I know of a girl who was brilliant with kids who got a criminal record which bears not reference and is part of her ability to work with kids professionally, or morally. Because of this she now has to retrain in something different due to a minor infringement. The CRB encompasses all errors we may make including the small insignificant ones. There has to be a better way to check on suitability for working with kids otherwise we will put of many many good honest people who know they are alright, except either for a youthful indescretion or for fear of being accused of something that they were not involved in or was made up. The CRB is not a suitable way to vet people. I have met many many people who have applied for work with children, who should never be let near a child for many reasons, they are not criminals but just unsuitable to work with kids, only to see them get a job working with children. Sorry end of rant as this is a sore subject with we.

massive issue^^ i hear ya
there are questions being asked about the efficacy of the whole system in Westmonster, as like so many things started with the best intentions it goes so far in the wrong direction.
Got 5 I think at present, nother one on the way, agree with lots of what you say,
a couple of years ago some of the voluntary organisations looked at the effect it has had on numbers- to the massive detriment of volunteering overall.
the thing that gets me the most is that it is Crapita, the company that is contracted to manage it for Westmonster, raking the cash in from administration.
will post more when it comes in the news.it needs shutting down in a big way. -

If you have answered YES to all these questions call the CRB 0870 90 90 811 to apply to register directly with the CRB and become a Registered Body.
Well that me fucked then.
Will need to ask the missus, also not looking forward to giving them £300 just to says I'm not a criminal.
-
• #57
Why £300?
-
• #58
whoop, wrong one (was reading the registering your new organisation rather than own's).
-
• #59
more like 20 or 30 quid ed
-
• #60
Yeah I figure that.
According to CRB, I need to talk to CTUK again to get the CRB application form?
-
• #61
" become a Registered Body."; didn't give you a bit of a clue there, Ed? You're cute and all but I can't see the government wanting to register your body.

I usually ask the jobs worths if they have checked the deets of the uncles/aunts that bring children in/out of school- as they're the ones most likey to indulge in the kind of behavior they are trying to protect against. I hate the way this piece of paper is used to hide behind.

is there any instrcutors out there that are lapsed,
i.e you got trained in 2005 and haven delivered anything, and,
are there any training orgs, ITO s that offer a refresher 2 days rather than having to do the whole 4 day course again.?
thanks J
-
• #65
J - trained in 2008 and haven't delivered owt beyond playground skills since late 2008... does that count?
Would be well interested in an ITO offering refreshers / option to (re-)accredit.
-
• #66
there are some people offering 2day refreshers,
you do the day 3/4. It is a ITO by ITO basis.
A- check with your ITO what theyre position is for people who didnt get mentored and pass the accreditationOn another matter,
now the Youth Sport Trust are chucking money at SSP's,
to deliver Bikeability, it seems B.C have stepped up and are trying to be the body that delivers all the instructor training for people associated with SSP's, like the SSCO's, now this is just what i have found locally, if there are others hearing about this please post as I find it interesting that B.C who dont have a history of delivering instructor training (compared to CTUK, or other bodies) are up there.
It may well be that theyre independent instructor trainers have been freelance for years and can offer a good course, just wondering... -

Thanks J.
I'll get in touch with a local ito also, don't really want to end up doing refresher in B'ham when there's an ito literally on the doorstep here.

CTUK will be offering a 2-day refresher course for lapsed/long term provisionally accredited instructors.
If you are provisionally accredited you will need to have a post-course assessment in addition to this 2 -day refresher course.
The course will take place in April (Dates and costs TBC)
The course will cover risk management, teaching & communication and revisit the National Standard for Cycle Training. It will be largely practical.
We will post further details about this course shortly

Does anyone have a link to one of the northern organisations? Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester?
Have looked around, but to no avail.. -

Maybe some of these? https://www.lfgss.com/thread43905.html
or these https://www.lfgss.com/thread56193.html
some are the same. Or contact the local council directly.

Have looked around, but to no avail..Think Pedal Ready are a Sheffield group, there's probably more.
In Manchester you're looking at Bike Right and British Cycling as ito's. Then groups like Wheels4all (warrington), National Cycling Academy (bury ... phillips park), and pedalmcr (best not to discuss their politics or diet with the forum heavyweights), and then some authorities run their own training in house. E.g. bury road safety.
Leeds. haven't a clue. Maybe the links have helped you also tho, there was a thread about providers outside London somewhere.

I took my course last summer and did lots of training and many rides for Birmingham CC and Sustrans whilst a member of a cycle co-operative but was never fully accredited. Now I've had a break and will be going alone, it's harder to get the opportunity to. Pedal Ready are really helpful though, they offered to accredit me but it was too far to travel at the time.
Bravo, Ed. Get out there, do lots of work and get fully accredited ASAP.
