  • "Shut up, shorts"

  • Thanks for the nice write-up. It was actually a really fun afternoon despite the weather, and not too cold. It would be interesting to see how the fixed wheel fares on a less 'sporting' course.

    Stelle ditto.

Always good to see the Spinergy getting some action!

  • Mark Silver, Left hand drive - does anyone know how he does this without the left hand pedal falling off?

I'm guessing tandem cranks for the captain's position on a crossover drive. He's a known tandemist and bodger, so it wouldn't be surprising if he found an old pair of tandem cranks in the parts bin and thought they would be going to waste if he didn't think of something to do with them.

Also note the not strictly CTT legal "Aero or die" handlebars

  • "Shut up, shorts"

That's often muttered when Illy's around.

  • As a footnote - both Illy and Stelle followed up their afternoon TT efforts with rides in Muddy Hell II.

Chap-fucking-eau, as they say in France.

  • Good to see Mark's tri bars still going strong!

Yes, you are completely correct. However, I think the other two explanations are more elegant.

  • Quick Question: Is it legal to race lo-profile TT frames at TTs these days? I heard a rumour that bikes with a small front wheel are illegal but no idea where I heard it or if its true?

I have a 700/600 Lo-pro frame that I bought on here. I meant to build it up to have a fixed gear bike for some fun on local 10/25mile TTs, I already have a geared TT bike for more serious races. The bike is unfinished but I'm pretty sure that it'll turn out too small (I've never ridden a lo-pro so sizing was a bit of a stab in the dark) so I've stopped for now. If it's illegal for races then that will be the final nail in the coffin, however if still legal then the bike may get a reprieve and I'll give it a try.

  • Lo-Pro is fine in UK domestic time trials. The UCI prohibits different sized wheels, but CTT doesn't.

  • Awesome, so I might try to stick something together out of cheap parts to see how I like it come summer.

    Thanks

  • MDCC Boxing Day 10

Assuming we don't get another foot of snow before Boxing day, we'll be running our traditional Christmas dinner burner on the H10/2 at 10:30 on 26th December. Keep an eye on http://www.maidenheadcc.org.uk/ for announcements before travelling. There are prizes, for which all riders are eligible, see http://www.maidenheadcc.org.uk/node/531 (the most awesome post on our site). £3 entry on the line.

  • Mark Silver, Left hand drive - does anyone know how he does this without the left hand pedal falling off?

Does this give an advantage in any way? I'm a bit confused as to why it's setup this way unless it's a one off for the rider?

  • Does this give an advantage in any way?

Not on a time trial bike. It's just Mark freaking out the straight folks.

  • Anyone know what date the Hainault Hilly 50k is next year? CTT doesn't seem to have 2011 events up, and the Hainault RC site doesn't have much info for 2011.

I like the blurb for last year's event.

How Hilly can Essex be? There are no hills in Essex, that is a well known fact. This makes the Hainault Hilly an ideal event for starting your racing season. If you have trained hard over the winter it should be a doddle for you. If not, riding the Hainault Hilly could still see you in with a chance of a part of our categorised prize list.

I'd like to persuade some novice time triallers to have a go. (This has the added bonus of forcing me to ride it!)

  • The forum software thinks that CTT stands for centre to top. Ha!

  • Everyone knows the industry standard is CTC.

Next you'll be telling me that inches went out with B & W telly.

  • B&Q telly Bill, B&Q..

Or in your case, BBQ ribs with an extra side of fat boy chips, followed by a doughnut so greasy you can squeeze the fat out of them.

  • How do you know what I'm eating for breakfast? Oh, you forgot the handfull of Cadbury Roses.. someone left a tin in the office.. win!

In front of me I have boxes of Celebrations, Quality Street, Jaffa cakes, and just out of reach are mince pies, a tin full of Victoria biscuits & another one full of shortbread.

  • @BB - the Hainault Hilly starts at 10am on Sunday 6th March. E14/28, 50km.

Do you think it's worth a thread in Rides & Races? I want to have a go this year.

  • Up to you. It's a TT, so seems apt for it to be discussed here, but whatever. Newbs need to realise that they require club affiliation etc.

It's usually fucking horribly windy. I'm thinking about doing it fixed this time, but getting 84" or 90" up Theydon Mount is going to be fun fun fun…

  • So if you get your wheel ratio right, you should feel like you are riding on the flat when you are going uphill
