That's the B-Twin single speed they were selling at Decathlon for the price of a supermarket BSO; given what it was retailing for, and its market competition, it's pretty much porn in comparison.

the bike on the right is far worse. the b-twin is not trying to be more than it is, but the cream bike... it's also more poorly locked. Surely if you spend £200 on a silly wheel you'd spend more than £30 to lock it up.

The bike on the right looks to be locked safely?
-

yea, D lock through front wheel and frame, cable through rear wheel and D?? Seems an almost perfect textbook lock to me. The only improvement that could be made would be to replace the cable with a second D.

I thought we were talking about the bike with the spok?

It does have one of those neoprene headset warmers though. The yellow one is uglier.

The B'twin Vitamin is what it is, and what it is is £69.99. If everybody who bought a supermarket BSO bought one of these instead, the world would probably be a better place. It's not pretty or very nice, but it's probably the best bike you can buy new for under £100.

It's also completely redudant. Quill stem, seatpost with seperate clamp, steel cranks? Bottom end V-brakes, no gears, no wonder it's cheap. You're better off buying a 15 year old Marin or similar for the same sort of money.

That's what you or I might do if we wanted an MTB based beater, but then we already have the skills and tools to sort out any issues on a 15 year old second hand bike. I don't know about you, but the contents of my cycle toolbox cost about 5 times what most people are prepared to spend on a bike. Obviously the B'twin would be nicer with an Aheadset and an alloy stem and microadjust seatpost, but all those little tweaks add up and they are already being quite adventurous putting it out there against similarly priced BSOs which have 18 gears and suspension.

if you're buying a bike from Decathlon for £70 you're probably not going to notice the difference a stem makes

least you know that the B-Twin will work (once you put it together properly), very unlike BSO of similar prices, like that Tesco's British Eagle (or something).
