Clive, this is among the best drama of the 20th century!
If you were already moved by the early stages, that's the whole point!
Do go back and watch it in full--one of the best films that you'll ever watch.
And it's best to watch it in a cinema non-digitally (sadly, increasingly difficult). It's a beautifully-shot film that hugely rewards watching it on a good analogue print.
