  • Following my "off" on Monday, my Swift ti was only slightly scuffed and seems to have come off far better than me - the rails look straight, albeit the seat post bolt was bent heavily and the "nose" bolt has come out - putting it back looks like one of those cracker puzzles - I am having difficulty visualising what it should look like (still concussed!) and would be grateful if someone would post a pic.

Having got the bolt to where I think it should be, it seems you need to have some tension/need to push the back of the saddle, to get the "nose" over the bolt (having taken the extender bolt back to the start of the thread)..it also looks too hard to do one handed!..... any comments/thoughts?

Back to the thread - I use my Toupe when it's wet

  • Work chelsea cream in and leave overnight before buffing; or the old warm wax method.

  • @commie - trying to get the nose back on is a right pain in the arse (no pun intended).

assuming bike upright: basically you need to strectch the leather 'up' to get more leather over the nose, at the same time pull the rear end of the bolt 'down' to align with nose hole and tighten the bolt. a real bugger. had to do this the other day and lots of cursing didn't help things either. more hands the better

  • Neatsfoot oil is always good for Brooks saddles. Helps break them in too

  • Hoping to get some advice have been given a pair of old brooks saddles and noted that the leather on both is quite dry and hard. The leather is also starting to tear around the rivets.

What would you recommend that i do to rejuvenate the saddles.

(Have tried search and this is the closes thread from the 16 pages till the search system failed on me.)

  • Gonzo try using Neatsfoot Compound oil by Carr, Day and Martin it is quick acting and deep penetrating. Apply it not too liberally on the underside and leave it to soak in overnight. This will nourish and re-hydrate the leather. I swear by it and it has never failed me.

  • How about the torn area around the rivets? As i'm worried as it becomes supple that the leather with tear.

  • Gonzo I wouldn't worry too much about the torn area unless it's really bad or you bounce around on it. Either way if you don't nourish and hydrate it, it will eventually fall apart.

  • worst case, send it back to brooks and have them put a new leather top on it.
