heading south on proctor street this morning, a van turned right to take the small turning before the junction with high holborn then decided against, swerved left back onto the main road and wedged himself into the bus lane.
i saw all this from about 40m up the road then squeezed past him as he was stuck at the lights, taking due care as he was obviously a bit lost/dangerous. he got on his horn (genuinely not sure why) so i turned and looked back quizzically (which I thought was quite restrained as often it would just have been the finger).
the next bit is weird.
as i'm waiting at the lights of proctor/high holborn i feel a crash on the back of my bike. I thought that the guy behind me had run into me by accident but as i look behind me i see the driver of the van from before running back to his vehicle after having kicked my back wheel. hmmm...
i asked the pedestrians to stay where they were to act as witnesses, picked up my bike and ran back to where his van was stopped hoping to hold him up in the traffic, but he crossed 3/4 lanes without indicating and sped off left back towards the city.
i got the licence plates and names/addresses of two witnesses so we'll see what happens. apart from damage to the bike i'm not really sure what other crimes he may be guilty of. the police operator was good though so we'll see what happens.
the rear wheel needs a bit of tlc and my rear mud guard is caput.
anyway, for those that may be interested, there it is.
