by the way, is it you with the natty, or should that be netty, sun-tan? I'm surprised our tall friend (sorry can't remember names) didn't have a diagonal white stripe across his back & chest.

Hi guys.....I just joined the forum primarily to thank everyone involved for a great day out on the Southend jaunt.....I was the guy with the GT Arrowhead fitted with road tyres....I was persuaded to go by Fussballclub and having never ridden that far in my life was very happy to not only get to Southend without any drama but also to meet everyone there.......as a result I just did ten miles in one gear (44-17 as an experiment).....have concluded that my next GT is definitely gonna be a single speed job....so I look forward to doing another ride with you all soon.....can't remember the name of who it was gave me a mineral tablet to drop in my water at the pub stop but thanks - worked a treat !

Is that what he said it was? Did you wake up the next morning with a strange pain in your behind?

hang on a minute, was this 'mineral tablet' slipped into your water bottle? And did you also wake up in a strange man's bed with an orange in your mouth and a bag on your head?

Ah bless you, Skully. I believe I was looking out into the distance searching for the ever punctual JimJams and Gina (whilst enjoying the sun of course)...
This was an ace day. South Ends is rubz but the journey there was most excellent. Looking forward to Oxford!

bit late on this and not sure if people are still alerted to new posts on old threads, but i was the chap struggling along with the MTB on the southend ride like a true novice. apologies for holding anyone up - i nearly died several times that day but had lots of fun anyway. anyway, i've now seen the light and sold the MTB in favour of my very first fixie.
oh and cheers to ed for lending me his steed after about 15 miles. otherwise i'd have defo have sacked it off after about 15 miles.

44 16 - finding that pretty good all round really, although if you put me on those hills near chingford again it could be another story.

• #490
Hi Rudall, after a few months on 44 16 we should have another go on the rollers! Next year's Nocturne, perhaps?
-
• #491
ha! sorry about the delay mate - so you were the one that pasted me at smithfields eh? in my defense i'd had a couple and err, i was wearing a jumper and that...
-
• #492
It wasn't a pasting. But I was glad that I won :-)

You'd be amazed how much better you probably would be at doing this part of the route, especially as you'd have a memory what is coming. I hated that bit when I first did the route, and now I look forward to it ...
EDIT and I should say, as anyone who knows me will confirm, my climbing is utterly shite.
