I too have done this with a BB lockring back when you couldn't get a track hub for £15 from people like on-one. I didn't skid, and it was always ok for me, and people didn't used to have such a problem with it. If your anything like me, you'll soon spend so much time worrying about it that you'll have sold a kidney to get a new hub....
