Removing all pins from pedals

Posted on
  • Hey,

I have Wellgo V8's on my bike, is it possible to remove all the pins, I can get most of them out round the edges but the middles few cant work it out...

I want them out for 2 reasons.. They totally tear my shoes apart. and also I am getting straps so guess that i wont be able to easily remove my feet from the straps cos the pins will keep my feet in.

Any way to get them out.. or should is it a new pedal job?

    Cheers

  • I used an angle grinder.

  • IIRC there are two types of pins, the designed to be replaceable small screw in grub screw type and the designed not to be replaced pressed in plain ones.

To remove the pressed in ones,
    a Grind off
    b Mole grips

  • turd. ill try pulling them out tonight. not sure if it will work

  • Just ditch the heavy metal wellgo's

    Get some plastic ones instead.

  • Ya, on nearly all pedals the ones in the middle are cast in. File/grinder. Pedal material is quite soft so really easy to do even with a blunt file.

  • OZ! dear boy, you hasn't gave me the address so I can send you some plastic cage and strap!

  • But you said recently that running without retention was fine.

foot retention isn't that big a deal if you have a front brake IMHO.

Double standards? Or do you need a ladder to get out of cloud cuckoo land?
