  • Fantastic news, good to hear she made it and is recovering!

  • That's great news (sort of). Hope she recovers fully and quickly.

  • I'm glad to hear she's on the mend. Hope she makes a swift recovery.

  • I was there the whole time and saw everything. I was very shaken as i watched the paramedics work on** him** for over an hour, trying to safely retrieve him from under the massive tip truck double wheels. As I watched from my friends 2nd story building I could see alot but no blood. Eventually they got him out and onto a stretcher, thankfully and to my surprise his arms were moving and he was alive. Quite unbelieveable, i thought he was gone. He is so lucky to have been alive, it was a horrible accident. Hopefully he is still OK. I wish i hadnt seen it but has made me a better cyclist since. If he hadnt made it i would have been devistated.

you must have been watching very closely.

  • Hi Everyone,

An update for you... the young lady involved in this accident on Tuesday the 28th was my 23year old sister. She suffered some nasty injurys but is recovering in hospital as we speak, she was a verty lucky girl.

Thank you all for your kind messages on here... I stumbled across this thread by accident last week and I thought it would be a good opportunity to thank you all for your support and also to ask if anyone was witness to the accident and havent spoken to police It would be great if you could get in touch on here. I am in the process of gathering as much info as i can in order to get to the bottom of wghat happened to my sister that afternoon.
pass on our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Yes, I hope she's getting best possible care.

A couple of people here have had similar experiences. We at London Cycling Campaign would like help. We can offer advice on dealing with the police and witnessess and getting legal support. If stickykitten wants to contact me I can explain what we have learnt from other similar crashes. charlie@lcc.org.uk 020 7234 9310 ext.213

  • my word. best wishes for her recovery.

I've made that mistake before and I really ought to know better!
Later the day I did this, I received a letter from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, which started:

    Dear Sir...

    GWS rider, any way!

  • It is so great to read one of these threads thatg starts dismally and ends with good news. I hope that she make a full and swift recovery. Good luck in finding out exactly what happened.

  • Fixme... would you please get in touch with me let me know what you saw that day and let me know if you have spoken to the police or if you think you can help.

  • ^ What's the purpose of this in this thread?

  • Thanks, Pifko--it didn't occur to me to scroll down far enough!

  • Hello everyone,

My sister told me about this site and these posts when I was in hospital and I was very touched, it gave me some kind of encouragement and motivation in the first few difficult weeks in hospital. So thank you.

It's over six months on and although I'm still finding the collision very hard to come to terms with my health is very much improved.

My injuries were severe; I had three fractures to my pelvis, one to my ankle, shoulder dislocation, compartment syndrome in my right leg and a degloving wound in my left. I spent two months in hospital. I am still suffering from hip pain and have to constantly care for a skin graft on the whole of my left leg, which is yet to heal. As well as coming to terms with the way it looks and feels.

I was a safe and aware cyclist. The lorry came at me from behind, I banged on the door, shouted for it to stop but I could do little to escape it. In many of these collisions I am sure it is not the cyclists fault. Drivers need more cyclist awareness. I remember everything, it will never leave me.

It's tough, but I can walk now with a stick and have come so far. I always take consellation in the fact that I was so lucky to have survived this petrifying event and that many others have not been as lucky - I know how they must have felt, it scares me but I will seek just for them.

I hope this finds all of you well, and thank you again.

    Take care,

    Kirby x

p.s - I've been doing lots of craft during my recovery, you might like to see what has been getting me through

I'm more than happy to provide people with help and advice if they or a relative or friend have (god forbid) been through a similar experience. I met one woman in hospital who had had a similar experience we only exchanged a few words but it was so helpful. So if you know anyone - let me know.

AND thank you all so much for your kind words - I was surprised that you all replied so quickly! Take care and be safe x

  • Meh, you seem to be assuming that I have some sort of life outside of this forum :)

You're welcome Kirby. The same applies to you...let us know if there is anything we can do to help.
