Brooks' popularity has a dualistic nature. It's popular by it's virtues as bike-butt interface by many cyclists who do serious mileage. And it's popular as an aesthetic fad for it's looks.
Brown brooks saddle + tape is the overdone two thousand 00's fashion trend in bikes, like the splash tape in the 90's or the 80's fade paint jobs. But that is good, because when the fad wears out, the marketplace will be full of hardly used Brooks saddles for people who appreciate them for their bike to butt properties.
