For Sale: Chas Roberts Lo Pro Reynolds 653

  • Hello all and listen up!

I am selling my Chas Roberts Low profile Time Trial Frame with fork and parts. Now here comes the schpeel.

It is a metallic purple, hand-built from lightweight Reynolds 653 tubing and is of part lugged, part fillet brazed construction. It takes a 700c rear wheel and a 650/26" front wheel. The frame and fork are in very good condition.
My chain did come off once wrapping itself around the bottom bracket (photo supplied) chipping some paintwork. Nothing serious! there are a couple of tiny storage marks, other than that it's 'almost' perfect.

According to a fellow LFGSS member allow me to quote, "the frame was custom built for someone who's height is 5'11. It's 'Micro' geometry - so it has a short seat-tube and is designed for use with a long seat post. Frame sizing is; 56cm top tube (CTC) / and 45cm Seat tube (CTC).

I am 5'11 hence the purchase 4 months ago, however the frame IS too small for me. Hence the reluctant sale. I would then add that this bike would suit someone 5'7 to 5'9.

The rear spacing is 130mm with Ritchey Vertical dropouts. Front spacing is 100mm and it takes a 27.2mm seat post and a standard quill stem. Bottom bracket threading is of course English.

Included in the sale are the following parts:

-Campagnolo Xenon brake which came with Shimano 600 pads (new 600 pads thrown in for free)
    -Cinelli Milano stem
-Cinelli Champion Del Mundo bars with fizik bar tape
    -Stronglight 1" Threaded Headset
-26" front Vili-Vili clincher rim on a Formula high flange track hub, new
black spokes and nipples and specialized tyre
-700c rear Ambrosio rim on a System Ex hub and Panaracer clincher tyre
-A Long 27.2mm Silver Kalloy Seat Post
    -Turbomatic 4 saddle
    -Shimano UN54 Bottom Bracket
    -Shimano custom cranks
-Shimano 600 pedals with cages and worn out christophe straps
-Shimano Dura ace 54 tooth chain ring
    -KMC chain
    -Miche 18 tooth sprocket
    -Shimano Dura ace lock ring
    -Rear reflector

I stripped down the whole bike 1 week ago, degreasing, cleaning and re-greasing everything apart from the hubs. I replaced the brake cable but have left the worn down pads (ready to be replaced by you be it Shimano or Campagnolo)

I don't want to split any of the above.

£400. Now gives me your monies.

  • Nice, shouldn't last long.

  • doesnt look very lo-pro

  • Due to little interest.

PRICE DROP £350 plus a spare innertube for each wheel.

  • LightEDDed - I agree ... but if it were set up for a smaller rider with a lower saddle height and if the stem was shorter it would then have the appearance of the type of lo-pro TT bikes knocking about in the 80s.
    Nice frame.

  • Maybe its just a small frame set up for a really tall rider?

  • I bought the frame off Pistoffski who said it was built for someone 5'11 don't know if it actually was, but he sounded pretty genuine so I bought it.

However I do know that my knees are beginning to ache quite a bit which isn't a good sign so Im gonna get a bigger bike as I need my knees.

  • pistoffski knows wassup.

  • Pistoffski sounded clued up and he was very helpful supplying me with parts and some free labour.

If a 5' 7 - 5'9 gent doesnt want this bike, surely his girlfriend will???

  • This looks a similar shape to my Mercian for what its worth. I think they were called Micro TT frames (?) and meant to run with a ton of seatpost showing. Mine also looks just like a small frame, but held against a second 'standard' (sloping top tube Lo pro), which is approx 54cm square equivalent, all the contact points are in the same place. Obviously this could be completely different with the Roberts above.

    Looks nice, i'd be tempted.

  • christianSpaceman I agree it looks very similar in geometry to your Mercian. I emailed Chas Roberts for some info on this frame but they are probs too busy building frames.

  • There's a picture of both of the lo pro's (standard size vs. micro) referred to in my post in the photo album on my profile in case anyone wants to compare.

  • some more details of the bike, cant seem to load all of my photos for some reason?

  • price drop £335

  • just hold onto it, worth more than 335 surely-just wait for a buyer
unless of course you need the money

  • Can I un drop the price? I guess Im just being a little impatient

  • you sale thread your bike i guess

  • if this is the one at james's shop it is beautiful, and it is a TT frame (as christian spaceman said)

  • Just realised that one of the chain ring bolts was missing in the pic. These have been replaced by brand new strong light bolts.
