headset sizing question

Posted on
  • I have a threaded headset on my road bike (1990s trek) that I want to replace with a chris king 2nut. I measured the outer edge of the fork steerer tube at 1" (the threaded bit) - I think that this means I'm looking for a 1" headset?

    I think that this is right, from winstanleysbmx (as they are the only UK stockist with any in stock that I have found). Will it fit?

    And I assume that the headset from winstanleys is standard ISO 1", and not BMX specific... is that a safe assumption?

    Thank you!

  • have a read of this http://chrisking.com/headsets/hds_2nut

    can you post a picture of your current headset?

  • the real question should be "do you think a CK headset is good enough for my 1990's trek"? Because i don't think it is.

  • "do you think my 1990s trek is good enough for a CK headset"

    it probably isn't, but anyway, I am fond of it and I don't want to service the headset any more (and the current one is knackered)

    I am pretty sure it currently has this one - dura ace 7700, I'll double check when I get home...

  • ps - thank you JV, that link is good and I hadn't seen it before. I think that the one from winstanleys is the standard 1" version, so I think it will probably be right, just wanted confirmation...

  • Check out these guys before you buy, usually they offer better prices than any UK based retailer on Chris King products;

  • Btw, that Winstanley link is showing a threadless headset image. Best check they'll supply the right one before ordering.

  • thanks - aspire are showing 1 in red and 2 in yellow though - It's got to be black, silver or gun metal or it'll look peculiar!
