I have done that internal bolting bodge - It's a massive ballache and I had to bend and fabricate spacers.
Sometimes it held and sometimes it wouldn't stay tight no matter what.
If you do it; use a nylok nut and serrated washer.
8mm drill and some cutting fluid (or just go slow and let it cool) is easy enough...
If you don't want to drill then look out for the dia-compe n500 brake calipers or similar.
