  • Forgot to say: I would block this one out, add some tension, and tie the flaps with bootlace, I've PMd Andy already.

  • But how long does an Arione last?

5+ years on mine, still going fine. How long would a good and well cared for Brooks last?
    [genuine question]

  • the sensible thing is to stuff a sainsburys carrier bag under the rails, this stops most of the spray getting to the leather (that is already covered in proofride) and if you have to leave your bike outside in the rain you cover the saddle with the bag.

  • some old timers have told me that the profide is not that great. they prefer neetsfoot oil or mink oil on the underside. anyone use the carr&day horse saddle stuff?

    dave moulton's way

  • Neat's foot oil is good if your saddle is very dried out and badly needs restoration. But it's overkill for a reasonably healthy saddle.

It will also make your arse smell of beef.

Mine's from 1971 and it's still going strong.

My most aged one I've had for 15 years, and it wasn't new when I got it.

I'm not especially a Brooksophile, but properly looked after longevity isn't an issue, and they can be very comfy.

  • One of mine is about 30 years old and in great condition.
I find them so comfortable I have them on 6 bikes.

  • More reasons why Brooks saddles are rubbish.

A man after my own heart.

  • Sorry I remember saying that in another thread...

I use this on my brooks saddles, the older one is now 5 years old a look almost like new. Whether I have mudgards or not on my bikes I always grease well the underside of the saddle. My older saddle is a french "pearl" from the 50s, that I treat with the same grease, was a NOS saddle, it seems to work well on this saddle too...
