1954/1955 Sun Cycles (of Birmingham) MANXMAN frame (Reynolds 531)

    ST ctc 21”
    TT ctc 22”

    Dropout width 118mm

Recently powdercoated RAL 1035 Pearl Beige at Armourtex. Some damage to the frame: pock marks in top tube and a gash on the drive side chain stay (see pictures) but overall pretty good for a frame this old.
Also included are half-powdercoated chrome forks (not original). Apparently the powdercoating isn’t as robust on chrome as it is on raw steel, and there is a small chip in the paint, very hard to see.
(NB: in the photos some glue is visible from tape that had held the forks and frame together for transport. It will easily wash off.)

    F&F = £50

  • Canaidan, PM'ed...

  • does the frame take 27" wheel, what is the rear hub spacing? and is the fork paint in bad condition, can not really see fork's paint condition in photos.

  • wareeyos - Yes, the Manxman frame does take 27" wheels. I'm unsure about the dropout width, but I used a 120mm hub. I'll measure the dropouts today or tomorrow and post. The paint condition on the forks is good, but there is a small chip I'll attempt to photo. Also, the chrome is showing some signs of age. Hope this helps!

  • By the way, here is an interesting advertisement for the Manxman in the 1957 Sun catalogue with lots of useful information:

wareeyos, here are photos of the forks and the chip in the paint on the forks, as well as the pitting on the downtube. And yes, I'll take £50 for the frame.
