Regarding the pain of tattoos, I don't have my thighs done so can't offer anything anecdotal, but the pain will always be highest where your nerves are concentrated. It makes sense to me* if you think about it in an evolutionary manner; all animals and people would have to be tougher on the outside where threats would be more likely to attack or hurt you. If you were to imagine us as moving on up from walking around on all fours the outside areas would be your back, outer arms, legs etc. Your chest, soft belly and inner limbs would be less protected and would be where the nerve highways run.
Although I've had tattoos that I thought would hurt worse than they did and others that surprised me. My feet and shins didn't hurt near as much as my calf. My inner arms weren't pleasant, especially at the armpit and one of the worst places was the crook of my arm at the elbow. When my chest was tattooed it felt like he was drilling my nipple even though he wasn't near it.
Tattoos hurt. I like having them though so I go through with it and concentrating on things helps. As does finding an artist you can have conversations with, which is sometimes difficult. My advice is to keep your blood sugar up by eating before hand and having something to drink on hand that has a bit of sugar in it to help with the minor shock that your body will go through. Don't do it after drinking or smoking the cheeba as I've done both and they really made it much less fun.
*I'm not an evolutionary anthropologist nor a doctor so this is likely bollocks. Just my opinion and something a tattooist once told me.
