Ebay are very good about finding out shill bidders. I admit I got done for it myself a while ago. I placed a couple of bids on a friends item and somehow they knew and banned my account for good.

This is exactly why you should use a snipe - so some greedy prick can't up the bid. - set your maximum bid - set a snipe for 4seconds. if you lose then it's fine -it'll have gone over your maximum (if you're pissed then you didn't set your maximum -tough shit.) you may still get a good deal.
