  • Get Paul Ross....he's the man for No Win, No Fee.

  • Well that was easy - thanks for all your help guys

google talk enabled - status updates a breeze

    Great thanks guys

Not using an HTC desire but I'll assume orange have done the same on all their phones.
never installed an .apk file before but I guess i better learn

Beta of the full opera mobile app in development, should be released in a month or so. Will have pinch-to-zoom, and hardware acceleration is in the pipe

  • People complained about TALK being missing from their HTC Desire phones, and Orange put it back in.

As for the legal (tenet/term) discrimination.....it could easily be argued that Orange have favoured one set of customers, and not another, based on the phone/contract that they have. Since they're both Android phones, a case for discrimination could be made.

    NB:
Please note that I am not a lawyer, nor have I had legal training.

Hmm, discrimanation is illegal on such things as gender, sexual orientation, age, ethic origin, disability and religion. Most of these are laid down either in the European Declaration of Human Rights or in other, similar, pieces of legislation.

Not sure there is a European Declaration of Mobile Phone Model Rights.

Not trying to be antagonistic, by the way. Just saying, like.

  • Huh!! I'm o nT-Mob and dont have talk either!! what the fukery?
Looked in Widgets, apps, folders and its not on any of hte screens!

  • Customers get services based on their premium. If you pay less Orange will be entitled to give you less.

Think Amsterdam... wander down the alleys and pay a 50euros (guessing) at a door, you are likely to get a blowie from a hot young exotic chick.

pay 10euros at said door, you will probably receive a toothless sucking from granny armpit hairs!

    Yes that is legalese....

Oohh I'm on t mobile and I've got it!! Conspiracy!

  • Something must be wrong. I don't know of any T-Mobile Android phone that doesn't have TALK installed as standard.

  • I said this 5 days ago...........

............With all of this in mind, I'm going to make a prediction. I think SE must have a new top-end phone under wraps, that will look to take on the Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola Droid X, and even the HTC Desire HD. If I'm wrong, SE are sunk. They'll fall so far behind, they won't even be a blip on the radar. Its sink or surf for them.

And today I find out that Sony Ericsson have been gearing up to release an Android PlayStation Phone. This makes all the sense in the world to me. At the rate of acceleration of phone development, they needed to do something special. If they get it right, they'll be laughing like hyenas. And it explains why SE have dragged their feet in updating current phones.

Which brings me neatly to: SE are officially going to update the X10 this month to 2.1 Eclair. It won't help that at the same time, the Samsung Galaxys S, is getting the Froyo 2.2 treatment. SE's update news, with video.

Lastly, Opera Mobile finally gets its beta to Android. I used this on Symbian, and it was quite excellent in that guise.

    Two things:

    1) You predicted SE will come out with a new phone that they will try to make better than their competitors'.

    2) That article is three weeks old.

Not trying to be a dick, but, you get no gold stars.

  • oh and I know this is going to cause people to call me stupid but how do i set up my google nexus one as a wifi hotspot so i can use my computer to access the internet through it.
I just found out using my vodafone dongle to do the same and access the online course im doing isnt working because vodafone are strangling the connection at their end when using a dongle! its a course! im not downloading movies FFS!

  • If you have 2.2 (which you should) you find the Wifi Hotspot app and open it. Click the checkbox to turn it on and that's about it. It will then appear as a wifi access point. You can do other crap like change passwords and authentication methods but if you just want to try it.. it's literally two clicks.

  • thanks hippy, i didnt think it would be that simple. some of the guides on the interwebs were talking rooting this and installing that...

i didnt want to go that far so soon

  • It's because some phones don't have it (<Android 2.2) and some phones have it removed when carriers tamper with the Android OS.
My mate has it on his O2-branded HTC Desire.

  • well it seemed to work but then I made it secure and now its not working, ill have to keep fiddling and give it another go.

  • its coming up with incorrect security type. my nexus one has WPA2 psk type and in the setting on my laptop it has WPA2 personal and wpa2 enterprise

im not sure which it is!

also whats the benefit of rooting my phone. from what I have seen its mostly speed gains but tbh this thing works fast enough for me at the moment for what i use it for

  • woohoo sorted, thanks hippy!

My bad for not checking the date of the article. Hindsight eh? A marvellous thing.

'Rooting' your phone (to ignore the Aussie version of what that would mean for just a second) does nothing other than give you root access, it top-level administrator privileges to your device.

It's what you can do after rooting your phone that makes the process worthwhile. Namely, install custom ROMs and run things like Titanium Backup to do full backups of your phone. If you're happy with that way it is then leave it.

  • I need to reroot mine from the 23 version to the 26 one. Then install some ROMs and do that back up

  • I need to flash [or re-flash] mine from the 23 version to the 26 one. Then install some ROMs and do that back up

Flash refers to changing ROM versions, whereas root is generic and can be done to most ROM's

  • Perhaps Lil is talking about the bootloader vers? I had to downgrade the Desire HBOOT in order to flash it with a ROM.

  • I'm on R2BA023 would like to go to R2BA026

  • hmmm curius!

Something must be wrong. I don't know of any T-Mobile Android phone that doesn't have TALK installed as standard.
