Yeah Rebar...
usually encased in concrete, and that's probably the best thing for that bike too. -

TBH
I think allot of the sarcastic advice being doled out here is pure ignorant - veiled by suggesting that the OP deserves a shit bike because he is considering a Create. The fact that the OP is here asking advice shows that he is interested in doing the best thing and is researching whats best to do. He may not be part of a wider cycling community & may not have access to people who can advise him properly, but its people like him that will widen the cycling community which is exactly what is needed to get better facilities and safer environments for us all. So go easy on the newbies.
BTW, I think the closed notion of the fixed gear community & their slagging off of hipsters, newbies etc. is hilarious. If you read through this forum you will notice that the vast majority of FG & SSers put a huge amount of effort into their look & trick parts for their bikes... Just as much effort as the hipsters. There are an arrogant group of snobs within the FG community who think they are better than others for some obscure reason - mostly because they believe they are not fashionistas, where the opposite is actually true, There is one protagonist who I'm referring to in particular & has come to my attention on many occasion on these boards - as he seems to act the arsehole in as many threads as possible.
i think i know who he's talking about

had a quick glance around the bike shed at uni today, saw at least 5/6 crates... might leave notes on them with this threads link on...

It's quite funny reading their "issues" topic on their FB page. Basically its everyone saying the BB broke, and them saying they'll send a shimano one. Why not just put the Shimano one in as standard?
-
• #1390
Just checked the FB page and they say they have now put Neco BB's in and Neco hubs. Why didn't they put shimano ones in the first place? Maybe they were unaware there was a faulty batch until people reported it. At least they offering free Shimano ones.

Create bike are ok not approving of them but my mate had one for over a year now and only prelim he had was broken crank cranked in half frame wheel fell off and handle bar fell off nothing major
-
• #1392
Are you joking? Crank, wheel and handlebars all failed, and they are OK?

A friend told me that there was a beautiful white bike in our uni bike shed. Went in expecting a nice classic track frame or something....
I was nearly sick when i saw it was a create. With Purple dildo bars. And the most horrific brake lever i've ever seen.

Fresh meat: Poor fellow in my office has had a Create (the cream version with black rims) for two weeks. After leaving to ride home last night he returned five minutes with a left crank that turns independently of the right. Silly me always assumed that bb axles were made out of one solid piece of metal, we've not taken it out yet but this one feels like it's two pieces with some chewing gum in-between.
Suffice to say in the last 24 hrs I've had a chance to see one up close all I can say is AVOID CREATE BIKES LIKE THE PLAGUE. I wonder that no-one has been seriously injured on one of these yet.

hard sell on the marketing copy!
Looking cool on a fixed gear bike
Asymmetric haircut? Check. Spray-on skinny jeans? Check. Collection of weird 80s synth-pop on your iPod? Congratulations, you’re almost a hipster. Now all you need to complete your transition into a bona fide urbanite is a set of wheels – and only a fixed gear bike will do. Create makes bikes that you don’t have to be a hipster to ride, but riding one will definitely make you look cool -

I have done what any forward-thinking mortal should do and whacked that website right into the epic fail thread - super pap

Hi all,
I know you will probably boll*ck me for even considering these bikes but what would you get out of the latest Create bike or a Coyote Tra-Fix Urban
I just want a cheap but reliable run about to the train station and back. Please can I have sensible opinions (even though I am asking a silly question) x
