I have exactly the same frame in a 59cm size and a very similar frame number, unfortunately the twit I bought it off had it armoutexed jet black all over. Nice to see what it probably looked like before.
I've only had vague hints to the frame type, but my best guess is a 1979 Competitor, but if anyone else has a better idea please fire away.
Love the frame though.

I bought this a couple weeks ago after moving her for school, but I'm not staying and although I would absolutely love to take this home with me, it's probably not worth the cost involved.
Here's the info:
Vintage Claud Butler 531 steel frame set
Vintage Claud Butler Reynolds 531 frame set in very good condition. Paint work is in great condition and has been touched up with colour match paint on any chips (and there's not many). All original decals in place (except right side 531 forkblade sticker) & front CB badge is in good shape. Comes with square tapered Bottom Bracket and British made headset as pictured which are both in good condition and run smoothly. Front forks have a spacing of 95mm, rear forks are 120mm. It takes 700c wheels but will require long reach brakes. Frame is stamped with a serial number under bottom bracket (please see photo), measurements are as follows: Crossbar measures 56cm c-c, bottom bracket to seat post is 56cm c-c and the seat pin fitting measurement is 26.2mm. A superb vintage frame set that would make a lovely bike.
I tried to narrow it down to the model but had no luck, maybe you can?
