I couldnt afford the baggy jeans from skater brands. Had to make do with extremely too big jeans from regular shops.
Had a pair of DC's and wallet chain even in school. Put the shoes on during breaktimes and felt like "the man". Chatted away with the one or two other skate/bmx kids at school about whatever youd seen at 2-3am on the x-games the night before.
Head to town centre skate spot every weekend (outside birmingham library for me) and try and work up courage to ollie the stairs. Eventually get chased away by security guards/police. Head to underground spots, strange car parks and all that shit.
