+1 to baby wipes, they work wonders on walls & painted woodwork.... Waitrose own brand seem to work fine... Not too sure if they would work on rented property?

Sugar soap is good stuff. I've never tried it with tyre marks but it always cleans up walls really well and totally gets rid of grubby finger marks around light switches etc. You are supposed to use this stuff before you repaint anyway to rid the old paint surface of oils and grime which then allows the new paint to adhere much better.
Edit: the eraser has the win, I shall read the thread properly next time.

non scouring liquid like cif/jif but there is the possibility your pants will need washing after you've inspected the damage it has inflicted.
10 liters magnolia £10 white spirited down. Job jobbed.
Cif will destroy the paint and/or bleach some of the colour out of it/stain the paint. Do not use this on your wall. White spirit will work, but will remove some of the paint in the process. You would have to be careful not to overdo it.

I just used this on our walls. put a bit of powder in warm water and a sponge and it worked like a charm. I bought it at Lido although the guy working there didnt know they carried it. it was only £1.50 for a box. boots might also have it in the housecleaning section
