  • It's all about the beer.

^ Haven't we done this same thread about 40 times already?

  • you lookin in the mirror again?

    Wahey!

  • Jonnyrau hardly made a tiny mistake. He was trying to scam people.

I don't think we should tolerate idiots or fools, but my whole point is that we seldom get a chance to know whether they even are an idiot or fool.

  • deadjoe's first post..

4th is the first one that even hints at derailment and I find it all quite funny..

Jeez.. pretty unfriendly aren't we? Some people don't deserve assistance.

  • Of course his scam is hardly a schoolboy's error, but how would people see it from the outside?

  • Polo, Tricks, buying and selling, the bunny run, the christmas run, the World polo champs the south drinks, the west drinks, the east drinks

I have have been involved in none of these but think they are great

The first tweed run, the North drinks, the second tweed run, 50/14's funeral and wake, Bright times, Elidh's memorial ride, a very wet GSIAD, and Swaintoux

I have been involved in all of these and I think the forum's great

I knew no-one on the forum before the first tweed run. I'm still here > 3 years later because of the people.

If the tone of this forum isn't for you, I apologise on behalf of the forum but in my opinion this is a vibrant and open community - take some responsibility and get involved if you are interested - with 20k+ people registered on here you'll find someone who shares your interest or your "niche" as the cliche goes.

and VB - perhaps just fill the twitter feed with the North drinks irrelevance...!

  • I generally feel those that think the forum is unfriendly are the ones who aren't based in london, who never get the chance to meet up personally, or be included in the rides, events, that we organise as this seems to mitigate the harshness of the banter on here.
Bullshit, in a word. I have been here for a hell of a long time, I have done beers and rides, been in attendance at many events and put in work with organising as well. I straight up despise what much of this forum has become, if polo wasn't a subforum of the LFGSS URL then I wouldn't be on here any more. I no longer attend events because I don't wish to associate with some of the people who will turn up. I don't go on rides as some of them have proved themselves to be littered with dangerous riders who aren't capable of holding their line and/or riding a bike safetly. The social side of LFGSS is not the be all and end all of this site, it used to contain a lot of good information which was easily accessible, yes we've always ripped on particularly stupid people asking questions which they could have answered within 2 minutes of looking on google but there is a difference between mocking someone and the proliferation of abuse that certain "key" members will spew at anyone about anything.

The time I have spent here and the fact that London Polo still wishes as a whole to reside here means that I learned to utilise the ignore functions well. People, specific theads and whole forums are on my lists. I do whatever I can with those functions to make my time here a little more pleasant, a new or occasional user would likely not want to invest that amount of time setting up the safety screens to keep them away from the abuse that our membership extol towards everyone who dares come here.

I am no longer proud to call myself a member of LFGSS. This wasn't always the case.

  • Of course his scam is hardly a schoolboy's error, but how would people see it from the outside?

Scammer got burned. It's pretty frickin obvious.

  • Wow, VB is using his powers...

Better be on best behavouir (not that im not an ass licker already)

  • I can totally understand why this forum can be seen as an aggresive and unwelcoming place to new joiners who haven’t had the time to figure out the nuances, injokes and ‘personalities’ of the forum.

It’s a shame as the most aggresive and, to be honest, downright rude few are unfortunately the most prolific and vociferous posters and as such are often the first touchpoint for anyone browsing the forum.

I don’t yearn for a sanitised and toothless forum but it would be kind of cool if there was less jumping on new people with the kind of language and intolerance that would earn you a hefty slap in any other social setting. Sadly a few members see this as some kind of sport or self aggrandisiment with little or no regard for new people or how the majority of established members would like to see the forum portrayed.

I am getting a little tired that all the camaraderie, fun and general helpfulness is bieng swamped by some established forumengers utter disregard for others and constant attempts to build themselves some kind of rep.

It’s not big, it’s not clever and most of the times it’s not even funny. They would do well to remember how well they were welcomed themselves at the beginning and how their ‘idiosincracies’ have been tolerated.

It is a great place with some fantastic people and it’s a shame that obstacles are placed in the way of lurkers and new joiners seeing that

  • Names?

  • Pistanator, Dancing James, Wiganwill, etc

  • Names?

    Oliver Schick.

  • Pistanator, Dancing James, Wiganwill, etc

How do I get on that list?

  • I'll name you one. Skully. Though I have it on good authority that that is not his real name. He was the first fixed gear rider I ever met.. It was in a Turkish bath house in Turkey. Long before the forum even existed. I won't go in to detail of the things we did that night. I will go in to detail about how when I woke up the next day my wallet was missing. And my bike. And 'Skully'.
You talk about being welcoming to strangers?

  • Youre not nice enough Lucifer

  • fuck me... i'm a lurker and i don't care what anyone says, this is better than Hollyoaks any day of the week...

  • fuck me... i'm a lurker and i don't care what anyone says, this is better than Hollyoaks any day of the week...

    +1

  • I'm working on it.

I've got a vintage Colnago that I'm going to turn into a baby blue fixie.

Now am I a big enough cunt?

  • Pistanator, Dancing James, Wiganwill, etc

I'm pretty sure 'etc' flounced a while back.

  • I'm starting to think this is a cyclical conversation.

    ahem!
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread9348.html

  • Wow, what started as trying to defend and justify ourselves to outside critisisum has now turned into finger pointing exersize. This place cant be that bad or we wouldnt all still be posting. Do you really need to keep on analizing everything? It is just repeating what everyone else has said.

  • The forum needs to get really big a bloated once in a while, then it goes pop, implodes in a fury of bitching and back biting, and kind of settles down.

This thread is just a minor eruption.

  • More forum lols! This and the memes thread today = hilarity.

The forum is awesome. Some people are dickheads and I wish they'd never have joined. But I'm still more than happy to go out and grab a drink with the mates I've made on here, and meet new ones.
