I can totally understand why this forum can be seen as an aggresive and unwelcoming place to new joiners who haven’t had the time to figure out the nuances, injokes and ‘personalities’ of the forum.
It’s a shame as the most aggresive and, to be honest, downright rude few are unfortunately the most prolific and vociferous posters and as such are often the first touchpoint for anyone browsing the forum.
I don’t yearn for a sanitised and toothless forum but it would be kind of cool if there was less jumping on new people with the kind of language and intolerance that would earn you a hefty slap in any other social setting. Sadly a few members see this as some kind of sport or self aggrandisiment with little or no regard for new people or how the majority of established members would like to see the forum portrayed.
I am getting a little tired that all the camaraderie, fun and general helpfulness is bieng swamped by some established forumengers utter disregard for others and constant attempts to build themselves some kind of rep.
It’s not big, it’s not clever and most of the times it’s not even funny. They would do well to remember how well they were welcomed themselves at the beginning and how their ‘idiosincracies’ have been tolerated.
It is a great place with some fantastic people and it’s a shame that obstacles are placed in the way of lurkers and new joiners seeing that
