i 'm pretty sure sometimes even when everything's nice and tight ,small movements you can't actually see or feel - - metal against metal - makes a creak becoming annoying or making it seem something's wrong.
grease the joins - for eg. chain wheel to spider and around crank bolts
or crank on spline is a classic (keep those BB bolts tight though) - sometimes just rotation of cranks on BB spline 90/180/270 degrees is enough to stop clicking - there's 4 positions they can go on a square spline BB
if you prefer a loctite can used on anything you think that grease is inappropriate
