Campagnolo crank dust cap query

Posted on
  • Hi all. For the current Record Pista cranks (14 mm hex bolt), can I only use the Allen key dust caps (marked Campag Made in Italy)? Or is it possible to use the ones that take a pin spanner?

  • considering that the thread is always the same diameter/pitch (apart from old TA or Stronglight), on't see why any dust cap won't screw in :)

  • Thanks for the reply.

Yes, appreciate that the thread is 22 mm most of the time, no problem with that aspect, but I was thinking more of the depth or clearance over the bolt heads. Perhaps some dust caps might not clear the bolts if they were meant for cranks that use a Allen key bolts.

  • Allen key crank bolts are the same diameter as regular crank bolts so if the cap fits one, it will the other also.

  • Good point, I guess that's why cranks like Campy Pista have shallow 14mm bolts

  • Cheers both. Now to locate a pair at a not-too-painful price.
