  • Had a hard 209k on Saturday. A nice 85k flat spin across the Cheshire Plains and then 124k in the Peak District with a lot of tough climbing. I did get the treat of riding on the High Peak Trail in the dark and then a descent of the Cat & Fiddle with almost no traffic on it. It was a bit gusty and dark so I couldn't thrash it as hard as I would have liked but still enjoyable.

  • proper riding kids^^
Arducius, the Chilterns are spectatcular this time of year eh, specially round Ashridge and Frithsden
I just rocked around the forest on saturday, loving the trail bike at mo.

  • Female of the species?
Nope. After some googling I think they were Partridge:

  • Did my first cross race today, Central League/Blenheim Palace. Loved it! Managed to avoid coming last, which was my only goal, so happy with that since I've got zero skills and the course was exhausting (soaking wet rutted long grass). Huge thanks to Wiesia for the lift and moral support!

Good work for just entering, the course looked flat and rather dull. Had I known anyone off here was riding I would have come over to give you a cheer.

I rode in my 1st Brompton World Championship coming home in 30th place out of 800 riders just over 2 min off the winning time. My team came second in the team event so have a nice Brooks B17 and Brooks bar tape to show for my efforts.

Yeah, lovely scenery, plenty of wildlife, and plenty of good climbs to be had. I'm getting to know the area pretty well now. Have a few more climbs that I've spotted that need investigating, and a couple to revisit. Plenty more weekend rides to be had :)

Another Brooks to flog at the pub tonight then? :D Well done, great result.

Yeah the course was totally flat, which suited me as a first-timer really, but the 3 or 4 tight spirals in each lap were really disorientating and people were crashing through the tape everywhere, which was exciting. An hour on the claggy long grass was such hard work though, was exhausted by the end and had to sprint for the line against the girl who'd been just behind me for a not-quite-last placing, properly wanted to hurl after that last effort.

  • This one is titanium though so it might be keepsies.

Keeping a bike rolling over that sodden flat course must have been an absolute killer.
    Chapaux!

Congrats... My first one too. I came in 39th and considering I was aiming for the top half I'm chuffed to bits.

Weather was grim but so much fun all the same

Here's a little vid of me dropping someone just before the line

  • Mini ride of the falling leaves...did a mini recce on saturday then added a couple more stingers on sunday...will definitely do it again. Short and sweet. I stole some ideas from people on another thread - the shortish rides around london or something thread.

Good work 21sec down on me, shame I didn't realize anyone from here was racing it would have been nice to say hello.

    next year eh?

Was my first ever race so was a little more timid at the start. Looking forward to next year

  • i just wanted to say that its wonderful how people can be at the same races and then get together through the forum,
we are all brothers and sisters together in the magical kingdom.

  • as it gets darker and the real riders keep going, lets keep this thread going for all rides that might not be the awesome TNRC group, but countrywide.
Just come back off another 15 mile trail ride of deliciousness
lovely warm clear night out, riding into the dark with a group lighting the forest is something cool to behold, and along the ridge of nine barrow down getting the sea breezes is a great tonic for a weekly mtb spin.
had some contact with Charliethebikemonger recently again,
and wanted to put a shout out for him again, proper mentalist,
heres his blog which is good for 2 reasons
    http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/page42.htm

    1. It mentions a MTBO event that Im organising for 06 Nov.
    2. He talks about some monthly adventure riding hes doing into the winter.

    Keep riding and stay strong.

  • Raced the Welwyn Wheelers/Eastern League cross this morning - it hurt! The whole thing was on a hillside, so riding on a slippy muddy camber all the time, with some technical singletrack and 3 or 4 short/steep climbs to run up too. I'm a bit confused about if I did enough laps to finish, I think the guy next to me was using wishful thinking when he said we were on the last lap, so I'll probably be down as DNF, ho hum.

  • I'd imagine you can only get a DNF if you quit before the winner has finished. From that point onwards, you'd get the time you cross the line, minus 1 lap, or however many the winner has gained on you during the race.

    That's how Beastway worked anyway.

  • Cool, that sounds more likely. The lapping thing still confuses me, I probably just need to pay more attention to what's happening in the race, but at the moment its taking all my concentration just to get round in one piece.

Edit: results are up, 9th out of 15, happy enough with that for only my second race.

  • My default jolly to Richmond, Twickenham, Kingston; +1 to the elderly gentleman with exquisite taste in Richmond who admired the 'simplicity' of my bike. First decent ride on my new build.

  • Jaunt around some as yet unexplored bits of the Chilterns round my home, then back along some of the Red Kite route. I was really hoping it was gonna be over 50miles, still, didn't get defeated by any of the hills which I was pretty pleased about.

  • I don't know what they were, but they weren't pheasants and there were a hell of a lot of them! They are smaller than a pheasants, brown, and don't fly a lot.

Yeah, they were Partridges, saw loads today. It's the shooting season for them ATM, a mate a work shoots so I've got a couple a few weeks back. Quite tasty :)

Arducius, we'll have to hook up for a ride soon.

  • The A635 over Saddleworth Moor to Holmfirth was quite special. Big sky, brown moors, straight road to the horizon. The Emley Moor transmitter gradually appeared, with a massive coal power station on each side, way in the distance.

Well done Caroline. Didn't realise you were racing yet, hope to see you next Sunday at HH.

Thanks, am on holiday for a week from tomorrow though, so next one will be the 24th (Luton/Central League maybe?), then Beeston (Nottm/Derby League) on the 30th.

  • Are you trying to win a prize for riding the most number of leagues in a season? :-)

  • I managed to cycle about 400 yards today. Not good news :(
    I'm not giving up though.

  • Stratford to earls court, to Chingford to leyton then back to stratford. it was good.. nice day for it
