  • The torm ones are the same materials, same factory, much the same design. Why pay more for rapha? We've been moaning about price for years and this guy has solved it. Just buy the torm.

    i'm talking 100% merino baselayers.

  • nice stuff, think i have my christmas present list sorted. :P

  • Rapha baselayers are amazing - bit too warm for the summer, but starting to really appreciate them now.

The torm stuff does look good - but really only because it looks like Rapha gear... I'm not saying that's good or bad. It just is.

Interesting to note that all the people who were making a fuss about the bike shelf (pre the whole jonny thing came out) appropriating someone elses design — are no where to be seen now.

... oh and the photography is so bad...

Tbh VB, with Rapha you're not really paying for the material (plenty of other companies making sportswool jerseys for less)- it's the cut, quality and customer service that is so good

  • We haven't had a chance to test Tørm's customer service yet, to be fair. Don't know about cut, did you try your jersey on DK?

The guy behind it was apparently a bit nervous about our reaction to his products as he has seen a few products 'tørn apart' on here. I don't think he needs to worry - the price difference is simply staggering.

  • +1 to dans comments

But we the key herd leaders have not got stuck in.

  • The shelf price difference was staggering, but if you have eliminated r&d costs etc it's not so hard.

  • £125 for the Rapha classic jersey, £45 for the Tørm version. That's £80 difference.

£80 per jersey. Even for brooding black and white photography, good R&D and celebration of visceral pain in the mountains it doesn't really compute.

Agree...ish. It looks similar to Rapha, and uses the same materials. That's all. Same could be said of the various price levels in highstreet fashion stores

  • £300 for the original shelf

    £65 for mr Rau's

    The point being?

  • That's the point. Comparing Rau's shelf and the original is like comparing apples and pears.

DK is saying that Tørm rivals Rapha for quality. Not the same thing at all.

Took a closer look once I got home, and it really is special. The detailing rivals that of Rapha (excluding the story in the pocket of the jersey).

  • To be fair, I have only seen DK's jersey in the bag, and I didn't even look at it properly. So I'm reserving judgement till I see it in the flesh.

Also, you can't ignore what Rapha do for the cycling community - sponsoring Rapha/Condor/Sharp team riders and so on.

  • the jerseys look very close indeed to Rapha's long sleeve jersey. surely some kind of law-suit could be brewing?

  • You mean from the original designers that Rapha copied?

    It's a frickin jersey with a stripe.

  • This is fucking great.

All we need to hear now is that Mr Thom got his stock from the poor bins out the front of Oxfam.

  • Oxfam! OMG boycott this evil retailer!!!

  • Shotvr have tried to position themselves below Rapha.

But by most accounts it is a cheap copy.

These look good but are effectively the high st knock off.

  • The guy behind it was apparently a bit nervous about our reaction to his products as he has seen a few products 'tørn apart' on here.

    fucking genius

  • was only a matter of time until it happened James, just one of those things.

  • You mean from the original designers that Rapha copied?

    It's a frickin jersey with a stripe.

in one sense, yes, you're right.. anyone can make a jersey with a stripe.

but if I were rapha, i'd be having a word with the factory, perhaps. i can see the collar overlap detailing etc is pretty much identical. not examined it in person so can't speak for the rest of the jersey. If i were them though, I might feel it's a little too close.

on the other hand, good luck to him, they look great

  • So I'm confused...this guy is Jonny Lau's mate and he makes cheap cycle clothes as well as shelves?

  • Someone's not best pleased I guess.

  • So I'm confused...this guy is Jonny Lau's mate and he makes cheap cycle clothes as well as shelves?

Yup. Get the sportwool freecycle from Rapha's binz. Stealz teh stripes from robbers.

  • Someone's not best pleased I guess.

He's got a valid point. I'm sure the Torn stuff is great but they've performed a wholesale rip off of the Rapha look, which Luke designed in the first place.

Why couldn't they come up with their own look?
