  • Not to mention as soon as it hits the UK I'll get charged import duty and lose them in a Parcel Force depot for a month.

  • May have to spray spray just spent the weekend doing it on some smaller bits like seat post clamp. Checking with a plater.

  • what color did you do the seat clamp?

  • Guess?

  • Guess?

    Heliotrope?

  • silver

  • Metallic mustard. Nah just gold.
Anyway cheers for the help. Going to see how the plating enquiries go, how the hope one looks and I'll just lust after the Nitto ones like I do with half of the Nitto stuff I've seen.
Next bike will have no gold anywhere near it. Whatever happens I'm keeping this one as its my first build, even if it ends up hideous as hell, which it will. But shit I've learnt a lot doing it and the refurb I did for the lady friend.

  • you're going to gold plate a stem for a Plug racer? Really?

Are you one of those people who actually respond to the *"Hello, I am Mr.Jon Chan a South Korean and one of the Director of Hang Seng Bank Limited here in Hong-Kong. I have a business that I want to offer you." *emails?

  • Heh,
I've gradually swapped out the shit. Soon all that's left will be the frame. And that will get replaced too eventually. Been a good learning experience though. Guess I had to start somewhere. But yes I now have a strong distain for the charge bikes. I honestly started off with just getting it to commute. Just got more and more fascinated with making it my own and learning how shit works.

  • why distain? They are what they are - practical and affordable

  • Disdain may be too strong. Disappointment is probably a better word. I think its the details. The more I look at it the more things bug me about it. My swapping bits out is probably making it worse rather than better but as designer I know thats how I learn to make things. It always looks shittest just before it comes good.

Did not work for Michael Jackson

I quite like the charge plug and a few other otp bikes. I generally think they look best when appropriate/similar quality parts are put on in order to improve the fit for the user.

Pimping them with bling is the equivalent to putting a body kit and blue underfloor lights on a shit hatchback.

  • Went with nice black Dixna stem, clean and simple http://www.tokyofixedgear.com/shopexd.asp?id=1737.
This stem by the way looks great with BLB's black risers. Made myself a coke can shim, barcode facing out through the stems front gap looks pretty cool actually.

Black brake lever and caliper. I got a black sugino cranks for cheap to replace the silver ones and swapped the red charge chain which was already stretching and was noisy as fuck for gold KMC Z510 which now runs smooth as anything.

No gold now other than the wheels and chain. Looking clean and simple but with a little bit of individuality.

Thanks for the advice, probably should have twigged a bit earlier that it was going to look a bitt naff with too much bling. You live you learn.

    Onwards and upwards.
