Stolen bikes

  • I might have just seen this; outside the bike shop on Wells Street. Freshly painted all black, I recognised the forks as I cycled past. Can't do anything myself as I off to Wales in 10 minutes.

someone get a lock on this quick!

  • But aren't those the standard BMW forks? Bit of a leap to assume it's the same bike unless the rest of the build was the same...

  • yeah, there was a bmw with the same forks painted black and sold recently..

  • Does it have the same dodicis? If so put a donk on it, i mean a lock and ask for proof of ownership when the apparent owner returns!

  • Hi all - some shitbag has stolen the bike belonging to the Mrs.

It is a very crappy bike and certainly was not targeted for any value. We live in Putney so I doubt it would go all the way up to Brick Lane - anyone have any knowledge on where it may be worth looking nearer here please?

  • i havent seen the scoundrel on the orange klein recently, but did come across this recently:

hopefully it is a completely different bike...

Sorry, have been awol so missed this...it's a different frame number, but good spot. I haven't seen him at all either. Hopefully he hasn't moved from around Kingsland or given up cycling for the winter. Or even got the bike nicked again?

  • Saw a hooded oik on a white SS riding up Brick Lane a couple of hours ago (15:40ish), risers, chrome sugino messenger style cranks and a gold rear hub were notable things i could see.
Tracksuit'd with the seatpost set way too high, so looked fairly suspicious if anyone has a similar sounding bike gone missing

  • Bump

  • Must be fucking annoying that some (probably unwitting) twat is riding it, but I'd be reassured knowing it's still knocking around far east London. Chances are it won't be the last sighting, hopefully someone'll find it parked up and be able to stick a lock on it.

  • I think this is a good argument for pitlocks. If your bike does get stolen at least the pitlocked bits stay on making the bike easier to recognise, no?

I'll keep an eye out East

  • I cycle this end of town on my commute. Will keep an eye out as well. will you PM me your contact details - so if I spot it I can call you?

edit -- just read original post. Ignore me.

  • I thought I saw it on South end of Southwark bridge the other day..... Caught up with rider and about to "stop him" when I noticed frame was green (not met. blue)& had no tri spoke.....

  • Both taken from my girlfriends house in Hackney last week. Not worth much, but may be left in the gutter somewhere, and maybe someone has seen them. The red one now has a brown brooks on it too.

  • My mates bike got nicked from outside his front door in a private residential building (4th floor) on Mare st, locked... 4-5pm this eve keep an eye out, Hes an ex cycle courier, now a van courier. Distinctive bike (Joe Waugh), headset is fucked but lovely frame.

  • make sure you head down brick lane on sunday
take the met police bike theft task force phone number with you

check the " what to do when your bike is stolen " thread
if you do see it, it will help you get the police involved

  • This is killing me!

Commie, that was very close to where it was nicked. It's Peacock Blue which most people would say was green and they may well have taken the trispoke off as it makes it very distinctive. It has chromed chainstays, seatstays and forks which is also distinctive.

Can I ask anyone who has had their bike stolen - When can I expect to stop looking at every single bike I see hoping it's mine? It's very tiring.

  • ^Well - it's been two years for me and I haven't stopped yet :(

  • Has anyone lost a chrome Charge Plug?

I saw one sat upside down on the pavement outside the barbers shop on Balls Pond Road - close to Dalston Junction. (Opposite Leyland-ish.)

Looked like it had some upgraded kit on there and was left with a degree of abandon that suggested the owner wasn't aware of it's value. I assume the owner was getting his hair 'did'.

  • Its Hackney, so yes. You will probably find my old wheels amongst that lot

  • Now that you mention it....go round and kick his ass.

  • calling mergatron
    stolen bike thread.

  • Pretty suspicious. If it were the wheels alone then maybe not. I've got a bit of a stack at home that require attention or getting rid of. But the about calling him and letting him know what you want sounds like steal to order.

    That was the suspicious bit.

we all collect odd bits but seats and seat posts, odd wheels and what you are after is a bit ummm
