interesting, Hilary's right on the french being 35mm but opposed to the eng 24tpi it has a pitch of pretty much 1mm making it's internal dia the same(ish) as the english (34 & a half(ish) so it's quite possible to re-tap as you are removing material from the thicker thread. THE main problem is that the frenchies drive side is threaded the other way, so what would be the point! (clockwise instead of the safer, english anti-clockwise) just grab some french cups and be done with it (...and some locktight)
