I have one about the same mileage, obviously can change cable,
then would like to know is it totally necessary to dissasemble? or can you just feed special lube through it/
none of my shops seem to know ... -

Thanks Scherrit - have emailed them, will see what they say.
*m.f - Alfine is greased rather than oiled, so it will need to be disassembled, at least partially. It's annoying, because I would do it, and make a video of how to do it, if I had the time at the moment.

Apparently the folks at bicycle workshop will do a regrease but not a strip down, which I guess is what I'm looking for. Thanks for the tip.
Turn up at 7.30am on a Saturday and they'll do it on the day.

Why you need to strip it down, does it have any problem?
If so, ask the guys at Velorution, Gt. Titchfield st. W1, they do lots of hub gears and both Roman and Daniel are nice guys -

Brixton Cycles may be able to do it too.

I believe that Jim at BC lays the wheel on a table, blindfolds himself, spins around three times then strips, de-greases, re-greases and re-assembles an Alfine hub in under 30 seconds.
Usually whilst listening to Slayer.

So close, but it's usually DOWN. -

Will chat to the chaps at velorution & BC, too.

If you want to learn how to maintain it yourself there is a course in Oxford on January 29th: http://s.coop/7hp

^ i'd definitely be interested in this, but there's a tournament that weekend. Are you planning to run the course again?

Looks like the course info covers the SA 3 speed - a somewhat different animal to the Alfine 8. I'd be interested in attending a course that details how to strip and service an Alfine 8....or a Rohloff ;)
OK, I wanted to service my eight speed Alfine hub gear before winter, but I'm bogged down with work, so I'm looking for someone else to do it for me.
Does anyone on here have any experience of servicing one, or know anyone that does? As I understand it after 2000-odd miles the innards needs a degrease, clean and regrease.
Obviously will pay for time and materials - bonus if you can come over to mine (east London, Bow) and show me how it's done.
