10th?
Aren't you still hungover?
-
• #78
Maybe too intentionally quirky, but is it the London Stone near Cannon St station which has the hidden toilets?

+1 for the Glad in Borough.
Full of Peter Sutcliffe's but good ale and when we asked if we could bring our fish & chips in the barman said "of course mate, I'm not a fucking nazi" - he wasn't.
We proceeded to vinegarstink the place out.
Fantastic.
The CAMRA pub of the year a few back didn't do food, but kept menus from the local takeaways and would order from them for you.

The Dean Swift in SE1 will order you a pizza from Captain Tony's next door. Fine tradition.

Great little pub with nice ales, but you can't fit many in there and it's closed at the weekends

I want it to happen but I can't organise because I'm moving house this week...

There's the Wibbly Wobbly in Surrey Quays. Basically it's on a boat. Quite good.

Hopeful Bump

Bump the second. Anyone still up for this?
-

I would be, just need to choose the pubs and route to suit.

Come on Hoonz - pick a day, and pronto.

I'm up for this, irresponsible drinking and riding is one of my specialties.
What's happening with your Ale ride KP?
-
• #93
^ one bike gets stolen from each pub until you all have to walk home.

• #94
Reminds me of the Dover Castle, getting offered coke by guys just out of prison while chatting about Fleetwood Mac, good times.

Suggestion: with the nights drawing in and diaries filling with whatever seasonal stuff starts happening around now, it might work out to do a few smaller rides to a few pubs. I'd be up for a weekend daytime, but not a marathon drinking session that ends in cold dark drunken cycling catastrophe (or a really bad Monday morning...).
Reviving the list:
- The Oakdale, Harringey
- The Palm Tree, Mile End
- Big Red, Holloway
- Ben Crouch's Tavern, W1
- The Toucan, Soho
- Intrepid Fox, St. Giles
- Cross Keys, Covent Garden (why is it quirky?)
- Slaughtered Lamb, Clerkenwell (ditto?)
- The Bavarian Beerhouse, Shoreditch (hmm)
- The Wenlock Arms (is this the same as the Wenlock Tavern #24?) - has it gone yet?
- Garlic and Shots, Soho
- The Hollybush
- Montague Arms, New Cross Gate
- Bradleys Spanish Bar
- Charlie Chaplin, Elephant&Castle
- Lord Clyde, Borough
- The Gladstone, Borough
- Churchill Arms, Kensington Church Street
- The Shakespeare, N16
- Pembury Tavern, Hackney Downs/Central
- Three Kings, Clerkenwell
- The Ten Bells, Spitalfields
- Lamb & Flag, Covent Garden
- Commercial Tavern, Spitalfields
- The Winchester?
- The Flying Scotsman, Caledonian Rd
- Warrington Hotel, Maida Vale
- The Kings Arms, LB/Borough
- The Old Mitre, Holborn/Chancery Lane
- The Mug House, London Bridge
- Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell (not at weekends)
- Hemingford Arms, N1?
- The Ship, The City
- The Swan and Edgar, Marylebone (seems to have lost its ales)
- The George, Borough
- The Miller, Borough (this isn't quirky is it?)
- Lord Nelson, Borough/Bankside
- Bree Louise, Euston
- Cask and Glass, Westminster
- Wibbly Wobbly, Surrey Quays
that's a lot of pubs. we could split by area, or do all the "smallest pub in London" pubs or theme them by "time warp but no decent ale" "time warp and real ale" "not time warp just weird" "of historical note" "quirky jukebox" etc. or just trim them starting with least quirky....
- The Oakdale, Harringey

May I recommend The Red Cow and The Castle.

The Castle's been closed down for ages, hasn't it? Last time I went past it there was a poster tacked to a broken window saying it's now home to a local Mosque, I think. Always used to check for signs of life whenever I went past because I couldn't imagine anybody taking up a tenancy in the place ever again.
Two minutes up the road from that awful pub is a pet shop (or at least it used to be a pet shop, think it's a furniture shop now) that's had a For Sale sign in the top window for yonks - one side has the normal 'for sale' stuff on it but the other side has a picture of Cthulhu on it. This is unrelated to the pub itself but it's one of those things that's just so bizarre I sort of feel like I need to tell somebody about it.

Come on Hoonz - pick a day, and pronto.
Righto, I been busy trying to get my shit sorted before I head off on the road for 5 & 1/2 months. Kinda neglected this thread but 'tis no more. Was thinking about doing like 3 pubs on this coming Friday, any more would just be too difficult for an evening. Peeps can then organise more rides at later dates with the amazing list that just keeps growing.
I'll have a think about which 3 pubs but I really want to include the Oakdale.

word up - the planning permission for demolition and flats which has been hanging over the Oakdale expires this spring. the owners intend to act on it before then.
latest is that the pub will close for good sometime in March.
if you want to experience the experience, make it soon...
A daytime thing will be all good I reckon...
