Actually , the answer ain't so obvious; apparently, some 'titanium' items do contain high levels of iron - an amalgam I suppose. This may make them magnetic.
Since the axle in question is NOS - therefore quite old, it **could **be that it is an early or 'cruder' form of titanium.
