  • I think we'd all agree on here - undertaking left-turning lorries is asking for trouble. You might want some back-up for your 99% statement, though - if it was that many it would be a blood bath out there.

But, more importantly, the relevance to this thread is ...?

  • @ lorry driver: people generally avoid discussing how we should cycle in rider down threads as it can seem a little insensitive, especially if someone has been seriously injured or killed - there are tons of other threads dedicated to safe road cycling and traffic issues though where your input would be appreciated i'm sure (/no sarcasm)

that said, i don't think many here would disagree with you and i'm glad you did post as dialogue between road users has to be the first step towards harmonious road sharing.

  • Lorry Driver, welcome to the forum. I think it will be interesting to have perspectives from another point of view such as yours.

There is a discussion on the laws of blame here
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread39852-5.html

And this is where we discuss dangerous drivers and generally rant about being nearly hit by vehicles.

Join in, it will be interesting, but note that hopefully we're all better cyclists and know not to undertake.

Linda, I think Jamie needs to purchase the lottery ticket in order for the karmra vibes to have full effect!

back next Tuesday to have them changed again

  • I didn't see this thread until this evening.
I too use the OKR every day of the week.
    I'm in shock.
Jamie, as you already know, you are one lucky duck! I am sooo glad for that.
My hat off to all those that helped you as well.

    Heal up fast :)

  • Just seen this, crazy escape. OKR is madness even in quiet times. Heal up Jamie, hopefully you'll be riding soon!

  • roads like okr are a 1950's throwback.

they are inappropriate, noisy, dangerous etc and should be closed !

  • i am glad jamie is ok.

and nice to hear from your family.

and well done to those who helped.

  • Just to put a different side to it, i drive a 44 ton artic lorry and we are based on old kent road ,and yesterday 30-09-10 was indicating left for 10 seconds and you have to take corners very wide to stop going up the kerb and now and then you will get a crazy car driver who cant see indicators udertake you but 99% of cyclists will risk their lives and undertake a lorry at this moment and when your approx 2ft behind the cab your in a blind spot and the driver cant see you,so why not slow down for 5 secs and not risk your life. Also when i driving our 18 ton truck over tower bridge cyclist try to scoot up your inside so tight they cant even ride properly when the road is narrow and traffic almost at a stop, you should ALWAY OVERTAKE NOT UNDERTAKE !
Also im a cyclist myself and would never do any of the above because i dont want to die.

Why have you posted this same victim-blaming stuff on two seperate threads?

Elidh Cairns, killed after being driven into from behind. The lorry driver failed an eye test.

Emma Foa, killed by a lorry driver who admitted sorting paperwork whilst driving.

Catrina Patel, killed by a lorry driver chatting on a mobile.

Anthony Spink, killed by a lorry driver who then thrw the bike into bushes.

  • Why have you posted this same victim-blaming stuff on two seperate threads?

Because someone pointed out it would be better placed elsewhere? They're a noob, so probably won't have worked out where to delete the original misplaced thread, and apologised for it in the other one?

    Fair enough.

Catrina Patel's death was covered elsewhere, the wife of the driver made some pretty strong allegations:

  • An eyewitness account states the cyclist was in collision with a silver Vauxhall

I know why they're not allowed to say "the cyclist was hit by", but it is still really, really annoying.

  • I have only just read this thread and just horrified... Story from hell... Thank god the victim is ok. I cycle down the Old Kent Road all the time and have witnessed a few accidents, but nothing as described on this thread. Best wishes to the cyclist.

"Julie" posted on here about incident too

Thanks for the update Linda. So very glad Jamie is doing well. Please keep letting us know how he is getting on and despite the little angry blame game wander of the thread I'm 100% certain everyone wishes him well.. "incidents" are very emotive for us all.

Whatever happened, happened and cannot be changed. THE MOST important thing is he is well and continues to get better.

  • Sorry was only trying to stop another accident from under taking. Sorry again wont post anymore.

  • Nobody telling you not to post here, it's very useful having your contribution here in the forum.

    You should check out the Cycle Training section of the forum to give your input;

  • ok so it's been 2 weeks now
Jamie still has to go to C W hospital twice a week to get his dressings changed
    so back again on friday

  • Linda, is there's no new about what's going to happen to the driver?

  • Strangely there's a witness appeal board at the exact same spot on OKR but for an accident where "an elderly gent" (plods words) was knocked down last week.. Nothing for Jamie's accident.. I can only hope/presume that there's enough witness's already?

  • Only just read the whole thread... man Jamie was lucky!

It's nice to see people helping out though, part of me half expected Londoners to stand there, photograph it and do nothing.... really good work guys

  • Linda, is there's no new about what's going to happen to the driver?

we don't know any thing about the driver other them it was a woman

  • Really pleased to hear about Jamie's lucky escape. And I guess the burns would have been much worse if the car hadn't been rolled off him, so fine move from all the people who helped lift it.

Not so pleased about barking at the well-meant input on the thread from a group of road users we could do with building better links with.

I ride chunks of OKR and it's not a nice road - so much stop and start. And SO MANY side roads, so many cars trying to get on or off it quickly.
