Best wishes Jamie lad. I hope your body mends quickly and that you'll be rolling with us again soon. I live on Grange Rd, which is on nankatsu's alternative route above, so your spill was minutes away from me.

the worst part is motorbikes doing upwards of 35-40mph down the bus lane in the rush hour.
is there something simple that could be done to make it safer?
The best solution for this is to take the lane, riding in the centre of the bus lane will force motorcyclists to slow down as there won't be enough space for them to overtake you and have to join the traffic steam to do so.
sure you'll get some honking, but overall, you won't get many of those motorcyclists going too fast at close proxy to you by doing that.

It's actually worse. They undertake you.

Following my previous post below:-
Hello All, I will be up front and state I am a journalist from Southwark News and we are doing a story about the crash in next weeks paper. We have heard rumours about the incident, which are similar to what is stated here, and we would love to hear from any eyewitnesses to confirm facts. Also Ellen we would love to speak to you and Jamie in order to spread the work about Jamie's recovery from the incident.
My details are johnp@southwarknews.org or 0207 231 5258. Apologies for using your thread in this manner but we are really keen to speak to people. Also if you have any other cycle stories in Southwark please contact me.
Thanks.
John
PS. I would ideally like to talk to people by Monday at 6pm, but call afterwards if you see this post afterwards.
We would still like to chat to anybody who saw what happened or can verify the account given on here, it is just to double check facts really and we are confirming some information with police although that usually is not very detailed. If you wish to help, even if it is anonymously, please contact me on the number above.
Thanks

Strewth! Not a lot to say other than I need your help:
I'm a little unsure of what lottery numbers to go for this weekend. God speed on your recovery.Someone mentioned Surrey Canal Rd. I hope you're talking about the cycle lane on the elevated pavements cos the road aint no fun, especially in the dark.

Final post just to answer MG's question, it is simply an account of what looks like a miraculous escape from a pretty nasty crash. We have been sent some amazing pictures. Right up against deadline now so you may miss it if you want some input. But give me a call and I will adjust if I can.

Just to put a different side to it, i drive a 44 ton artic lorry and we are based on old kent road ,and yesterday 30-09-10 was indicating left for 10 seconds and you have to take corners very wide to stop going up the kerb and now and then you will get a crazy car driver who cant see indicators udertake you but 99% of cyclists will risk their lives and undertake a lorry at this moment and when your approx 2ft behind the cab your in a blind spot and the driver cant see you,so why not slow down for 5 secs and not risk your life. Also when i driving our 18 ton truck over tower bridge cyclist try to scoot up your inside so tight they cant even ride properly when the road is narrow and traffic almost at a stop, you should ALWAY OVERTAKE NOT UNDERTAKE !
Also im a cyclist myself and would never do any of the above because i dont want to die.
+1 hope Jamie recovers soon.
I've cycled around SE london for many years and have always avoided OKR.
It's horrible and IMO always will be for cyclists.
Backroutes won't be quicker than OKR but feel much safer.
I used to live in NewX and this route used to work for me: (I still use part of it on my daily commute)
Sandford St, Cold Blow Lane, Surrey Canal Rd, Ilderton Rd, Verney Rd, St James Rd, lynton rd, willow walk, paiges walk, grange rd, bermondsey st, leathermarket st, weston st, snowsfield, union st. then onto Southwark st and over blackfriars bridge or head along the cut and over Waterloo bridge
