  • atacs?
    spring gone?

  • Anyone had many problems with speedy cleat wear? I know Time are meant to wear quicker than SPDs but mine were unclipping whilst resisting after a few months of use.

Change of cleats and still some play, only in the left pedal though. Tried two pairs of pedals and the play is still there in both. Maybe this is because I predominantly skid with my left foot forward, pulling up on the pedal.

I have run the same pedles and cleats for about two years now and although there is a bit more float than there was they are still running strong (touch wood).

yup, I guess so. Just odd that it's happened on two pairs on pedals both within a few months use.

  • I've been through three pairs of cleats, but then I walk all over in mine.

  • I've found that time atacs are harder to clip into (I sometimes struggle to get my shoe in exactly the right place) and also harder to clip out of (when a split second unclip is needed when riding offroad for example) compared to SPDs. Apparently some shoes require some tread to be cut away in order to work properly with atacs, and I'm wondering if that's the issue with my shimano shoes. When I used spds all I had to do was put my foot roughly in the right place on the pedal and they clipped in. Equally, they required hardly any force/sideways movement to unclip. Having to make several attempts to clip in when moving off from junctions is getting annoying. Assuming this is a problem with tread getting in the way, can anyone advise on how much tread to remove and what parts of the tread? CHeers

  • How long have you been using them?

I doubt it is. I've used the Atacs for ages with several shoes for CX duty - they are just harder to get in and out of than SPDs, though they handle mud etc better.

  • Been using them for about 1 year - and they've never got near the ease of use of spds.

  • Hmm, it took me a few days to adjust from SPD to Atac, but it was second nature after about a week (using Dominators). Just found if I pointed my toe down it'd slide/click in perfectly. Never heard of tread getting in the way, and pretty sure there are a lot of atac users on here with a variety of shoes.

  • @ chris0 - I briefly had some Mavic mtb shoes where the tread interfered with the ATAC cleat. I think it was a tread depth issue, as fitting a shim between cleat and sole (about 1 or 2mm) solved the problem.

You could just scrape/slice/hack off a bit off the top of the tread on the lugs to the left and right of the widest part of the cleat.

Never had this problem with Sidis.

I've done a google search but can't seem to find shims for time cleats. Where did you get yours?

  • Has anyone ever pulled their feet out of the pedals? I did this last night on my Look Keo's, my foot then sprung forward and hit the front wheel taking out 3 spokes damaging the paint on my forks and destroying my knee!

  • Only when the cleats get so worn there is nothing left but a rectangular piece of mashed up brass.

I had a problem with Aliums on Shimano MTB shoes. Some shims knocked up out of milk bottle plastic did the job - as well as carving some of the sole away around the cleat. Didn't have the same problem with SIDI's.

  • Time cleats and pedals work perfect with Sidi Dominators etc.

They were included in the box with some Mavic mtb shoes (1 set of ~1mm, and 1 set of ~2mm).

If mine ever need replacing, I'll probably end up trying these.

  • I really like my time atacs, however i have unclipped twice when I have not wanted too :( reckon i should swap the cleats over? says in the manual that swapping them over gives more resistance and a greater angle needed to release...

^greater angle needed to release :P

are you unclipping when skidding if so, it could also bee down to technique

  • Technique/worn cleats. Also if they're old ones it could be down to worn springs, as sometimes the slightest twist can cause you to pop out.

  • So which one's do you guys actually use the XS?

  • I use these in plain grey;

  • Fruity.....

I unclipped once when skidding, the other time i was just pedaling.

I am new to clipless pedals however, as in 3 weeks new, so I am bound to have technique issues I guess, what am i doing wrong? i pull up with front foot and push down with my back foot when my pedals are level, i do a few short skids and pedal against the flow to slow down.

    That make any sense?

  • Anybody got an opinion on what the Z or Z Control models are like to use in normal shoes? I quite fancy something where I can jump on for a quick ride (wa-hey) in trainers or such-like and I already have Aliums on my other bike.

  • Does anyone use Time Atac (Rocs) with the Specialized BG Sport MTB Shoe?
Just wondering if this would be a good match or should I really be looking at the Sidi Dominator and nothing else?

Going down to Condor tomorrow to try some on, so let me know what you think.
