    my 2p - stay away from old rims, its just not worth it. I thought the same as you and bought an old MA3 for a fiver.... the sidewall eventually exploded. Someone was kind enough to give me a replacement, but I still had to buy new spokes and rebuild it. All round waste of time and money.

    If you want an anti-theft measure, buy the rigida and paint badly. You'll end up with a better wheel, less hassle, and enjoy riding your bike more.
