God knows...might be different for each frame

  • I made this. It's single speed, so it counts! Fillet brazed for my A level tech project.

    It even worked!

It's now hanging on my bedroom wall.

  • ^ i have a question on this. i know ver little on trials riding, but from what i know, making a frame with horizontal dropouts is not a good idea as many stresses are pointed in the direction where a wheel may slip out? i hope i'm making myself clear on this one

  • Horizontal dropouts and aren't a problem. In the proper sized version of this photo (don't know why it's small above?), you can see I've made it compatible with snail cams to tension the chain and stop everything moving.

  • ok cool
you gotta love the chainring clearance on these bikes :)) what gear is that, 1:1?
    oh, and slack chain??

  • 18:15, on that one, I think. cHain is deliberately not bar tight for the same reason chains on proper track ikes aren't.

  • God, I would be very scared riding a trials bike that I made myself! Has anyone just made one of these trials frames out of a cnc cutout I beam/ box section? Might not be too pretty but its alway struck me that you could fit the general geometry within an alu beam not much more than 5" thick.

  • Sure, minus the fork.

Why not the fork? Do you not do forks in general, or just not for cross frames?

I need forks, seriously. And nothing I can easily buy suits.

Chrome one ftw. I actually like your approach HT badge though. A lot of custom frames you see are styled within an inch of their life. Form follows function. I'm all for keeping a bike well maintained and shit - but ten years down the road my bikes going to look like shit regardless of whether its got custom lugs / badge etc. or not. Thats because I use my bikes though.....

Very nice frame, whats the weight?
    What kind of tubing?

  • Thanks. Because of the odd lengths, it's a combination of butted and plain guage 4130. Not sure on the final weight, but a fraction over 2KG at a guess.

  • I belive the seat stays were the problem?
    What is the downtube lenght?
