  • What are you guys doing next year between June 17-18? If you don't have anything else to do come visit Sweden and take part in the race called Vätternrundan[1]. It's a 300km (187 miles) ride around a big fucking lake.

Last year we were about 10 people from the Swedish forum fixedgear.se that stood on the starting line. Some did the race on about 11h, myself and a four others did it in 14h (lunch, massages and stuff included). Not that good of a time, but it was fun.

This year I didn't start, I had payed the entry fee, but now days I'm to fat to make even 100km. Any way, this year there were also about 10 guys riding fixed gear who entered the race, and five of them finished in 9h 52m, that's a pretty good time for 300km riding fixed.

So next year, it would be fun if there was some British riders that came along. I promise I'll buy a few beers after the race for the British riders that make it over to Sweden and around the lake.

Max is on his way :D

Me too. Looking forward to it.

Perhaps sub 10 hours this time.

Perhaps sub 10 hours this time.

    perhaps not for me!

  • I think if I train for it, rather than just doing "a bit of preperation" it should be ok. The problem is getting the time to put the miles in.

Next year I want to make more of a trip out of it. This year I arrived Friday and left on Sunday and it was all a bit of a rush. The lake is beautiful, and it would be good to hang around for a few days.

  • actually, i am doing lands end to john 'o groats in may next year. so i might be a little bit fit for this. should be a few stone lighter by then too.

so fuck it, yeah! lets aim for sub 10 hours!!

  • L's E to JoG must be awesome. How far/long is it? Im guessing its a week or so.

  • How much did travel, accom, and registration cost you, Simon?

I imagine all the hotels/hostels are oversubscribed and pricey as fuck.

I think if you get in early, there is no real problem with accomodation. Joe is probably a better person to ask about trying to keep the budget down, I think he booked a local hostel and used public transport to get to Motala from the airport, which seemed to work out really well.

I was lazy and just booked a nearby hotel and rented a car. It made life easy but was not that cheap. The plan had been to split the hotel/car rental with a mate, but they couldnt make the trip in the end.

  • Signed up last night. Being chubby and out of shape, I needed something to motivate me - This hopefully turns out to be it...

  • I'm up for this. Gonna see if I can get a posse together. There's the threat it will end up clashing with a polo tournament, though. Fucking polo slackers don't plan shit advanced enough.

  • anyone up for doing it fixed? des?

  • This sounds awesome! Need to check how I'm going to be financially, and would appreciate ideas about cost of accommodation etc etc etc.
Also are people thinking of staying after / arriving early to make a holiday of it?

[Maybe Sam can organise some more 100+ mile rides for after ;) ]

  • anyone up for doing it fixed? des?

I want to do it fixed at some point, but perhaps not next year.

I think next year is all about sub 10 hours.

  • sub 10 hour fixed?

i am definitely leaning towards fixed for next year

  • sub 10 hour fixed?

I think those Swedish guys who posted on the 2010 thread did about 9.40 fixed, but I think that's a bit mental!

I think my vague plan is:
2011 - fast as I can on a road bike.
2012 - Fixed, with cans of beer in my bottle holders

  • sub 10 hour fixed?

i am definitely leaning towards fixed for next year

    Don't lean!

  • I will not be able to participate this year, due to a torn biceps and shattered humerus. If anybody needs a place, mine is for sale...

  • ARGH! I would be as I missed out on registration, but I have an operation on the 21st of May... This is just too soon. Shame.

Sorry to hear you mashed yourself up JesperXT. Heal up quick.

  • Will do my best - They say I will be done with the physiotherapy in 2012 and I might even be able to get back to my job ;)

  • Sounds like fun. I would do it if it were hjälmaren. Pretty sure Id die trying to get around Vättern.

  • My ticket is now for sale in the classifieds section: http://www.lfgss.com/thread65447.html

    This is an awesome ride.

Someone buy this and ride it. This is the best organised and friendliest mass bike ride you will do.
