Yes, research generally shows that there's a massive drop-off in cycling once children hit their teenage years, across both genders, but more so among girls than boys. The causes are the usual suspects--gender stereotyping etc.
Plus y'know perhaps the fact that male cyclists massively outnumber female ones and as sadly evidenced by the turn this thread has taken that can make it a bit of a misogynistic sausage fest. Some women might find that a tad offputting.
