  • Anyone use these? Are they any good? Currently ride with Egg Beaters, but they are getting a bit rough and the rebuild kits wear out a bit quick, unless i can buy better bearings somewhere?

  • I've been running X5's all winter and simply haven't got a bad word to say about them...piss easy clipping in/ out, but really secure at the same time and very forgiving on skateboard ravaged knees/ ankles.

The cleats are pretty bulky mind.

  • what shoes you got Sammy?

  • Really basic Sidi's from a couple of years back - they are only SPD-R compatible, so options for double sided pedals are pretty much limited to Speedplays

  • I was amazed I couldn't find a thread on these pedals. I've always had dodgy knees and when I got a job as a courier, I was a little bit worried that my knees would play me up, so I thought I'd try these instead of the clips and straps that I had at the time. My knees took a little time getting used to it, but now that I've been in the job for 2 weeks, they are great, no knee pain at all. Would reccomend to anyone who has knee problems.

  • thought i would check these out on the interwebz earlier.
are the cleats compatible with mtb?

  • The Bebops sound like a much better solution.

    plus it's in the list;

merge time fat boy? (@ hippy).

  • I could not find any UK supplier for bebops, I phoned the co. twice and they had not stock/interest.

They fit standard SPD. The cleats fit my mtb cycling shoes but the cleats are very wide.

The distribution and marketing is pants. The pedals are eally great though.

Really big engagement area which makes them feel stiff as hell when you are pulling the cranks. but the free-float makes you feel unclipped when cruising. Very strange, but very good. Very nice for a do-it-all bike, as they fit a good range of uses.

Clipping in/out is quick enough and easy for riding around town.
They (apparantly, havent tried yet) work well off road.
The connection area is big, so no hot spots on long road rides.
The cleat fit MTN shoes so you can walk, some (mine sticks out, but I have them on some touring shoes).
The free-float means you can do al the above while being kind to your knees.

My knees are fine, but I often pick small joint injuries in rugby. The hope is these pedals will reduce the amount I aggravate these niggles.

  • Where's out Mergian when we need him?

  • Where's out Mergian when we need him?

    Eating pie's?

    Either way seconded.

Will save me pasting my mini review into the list thread.

People love em or loath em it seems. My right knee is slowly getting shot with 'early onset arthritis' (x-ray report) so I will give bebops a go and dump my spd's next year.

  • Speedplay Frogs.
I use them for everything. Fast unclip/clip and no sticky out bits = very walkable, perfect for urban stuff - I use them for long rides as well and they 'just work'. Offroad stuff they don't clog with mud and stop working.

The big thing for my knees tho was the unclip'ing - no spring to fight to unclip. The free float did turn out to be useful as my legs were changing during KMI. V.good indeed.

Smallfurry summed them up well. - recommended.

  • Just fitted those, and I am pretty happy with them so far.

The cleats fit on my Shimano shoes where I had the SPD cleats on before.

Clipping in and out is effortless, and the float already highlighted movements I do on every revolution that the SPDs didn't allow. Must've pushed against them every pedal stroke, no wonder my legs hurt so much lately.

Now the question: Where can I get a cheap second pair?

  • I've now been in the courier biz for over three months (as opposed to 2 weeks when I started this thread) and I now get zero knee pain when I'm riding. These pedals are one of the best bike part buys I've made.

  • hmm, the price on ribble for the titanium ones is about the best I could find.
    Any other suggestions?

  • ebay?

  • nah, not looking good ...
The titanium ones are ok priced at ribble ... might have one of those.

  • Anyone want a set of these in used condition. The SS ones.

    £40?

  • inc cleats? then dibs.

  • Second dibs on those Frogs!

  • Missed it!

  • I've got a pair i don't need, let me know if you still need them.
