This is such good news, that Jamie wasn't too badly hurt! Dodge my friend, I don't know you, but if you meet me,
I want to shake your hand! Well done mate for the help you gave! Well done. And Ellen, do keep us up-to-date with your boyfriend's recovery. If he's not already a member on here, get him to join.
He's had the luckiest escape I've heard of. He deserves at least one Lfgss pint. -

Ellen, so glad to hear that he's alright and will recover from the collision.
quoting this as it's extremely useful if you need to find someone to go against the driver;
heal up fast
also check out the solicitors we like thread if he is looking to claim against the driver

Hello All, I will be up front and state I am a journalist from Southwark News and we are doing a story about the crash in next weeks paper. We have heard rumours about the incident, which are similar to what is stated here, and we would love to hear from any eyewitnesses to confirm facts. Also Ellen we would love to speak to you and Jamie in order to spread the work about Jamie's recovery from the incident.
My details are johnp@southwarknews.org or 0207 231 5258. Apologies for using your thread in this manner but we are really keen to speak to people. Also if you have any other cycle stories in Southwark please contact me.
Thanks.
John
PS. I would ideally like to talk to people by Monday at 6pm, but call afterwards if you see this post afterwards. -

I do hope your article is highlighting the dangers of bad drivers, in which case I would suggest you're welcome on here.
So pleased to hear that he's ok and massive rep to Dodge and all the other helpers.
Keep us posted of how he is and news of what's happening to the driver.
There is a wealth of info on the forum so I hope it can be of some use to you both. -

Blimey. 8 lives left.
Indeed.
Best wishes for a swift recovery Jamie.
And well done to Dodge - a traumatic thing to witness I am sure.

Double Tap told me of this yesterday at Elephant. I ride OKR every day, as do many others.
So glad to hear Jamie isn't as bad as first thought and I hope he heals up fully and fast.

Dave, Ray & I went past this at about 9.45pm, must have been just afterwards. It looked really nasty with so many emergency vehicles at the scene, we had no idea a cyclist was involved :(
I always find southbound OKR so much worse than northbound for cars speeding/getting too close, particularly after 7pm and the bus lane is open to all traffic.
Best wishes to Jamie - heal up soon.

..... What actually happened to cause this, did the driver lose control of the vehicle?
Even if you lose control, you brake!! I reckon they panicked hit a pedal and it was the accelerator and not the brake, hence the acceleration!
I gotta go across OKR later tonight! I'm not looking forward to it now I tell ya..

Hops: That's a really good point about the bus lane being opened up after 7pm.
OKR is jokes.

After 7 is always a joke on OKR south. Drivers wanting to get home swerve all over the place.

Why on earth do you lot all ride down it? I don't get it.

I say Back roads. extra 10 mins on the journey, but ...!!

Yeah, it's such good news that he's OK.

For the record, I think the OKR is okay. Maybe challenging, but I love it. I'm up and down there most dqys of any week
-
• #44
unbelievable. glad he's relatively unscathed. There's just no accounting for how people can cause so much damage with a moving ton of steel.
I say Back roads. extra 10 mins on the journey, but ...!!
That makes two of us.
agreed, always, where possible. Except the back roads around OKR are awash with dangerous drivers and kids looking to push you off your bike :(

Linda and Ellen thanks for posting. Its a massive relief that what I saw wasnt as bad as I thought and that Jamie is looking towards recovering. I was the only cyclist but, there were loads of people that were there and rushed to push the car away.... shouts to them!!

very glad to hear this ended well, and kudos to all the riders who stopped to help out!
so... i ride OKR pretty much 4 or 5 times a week. all the way from new x to bricklayer's arms from where I head central via great dover st/marshalsea road/southwark st/blackfriars.
there are loads of other cyclists using the road too - and many forumengers it seems. it is by far the most dangerous part of my commute/route into town, especially the stretch heading south between tesco and ilderton road (the bulk of the road)... the worst part is motorbikes doing upwards of 35-40mph down the bus lane in the rush hour, plus the surface is absolutely shite in the 2-3 metre space next to the kerb for pretty much the whole road until you get to that bit that has just been relaid (when it turns into new cross road).
is there something simple that could be done to make it safer? some kind of critical mass-lite to time people's ride back SE? or is there a good bypass route that doesn't add too much time to the journey? it should be publicised if so! which back roads are best?!
Glad to hear some good news today. Godspeed on the recovery.
