  • Afternoon chaps, so as it happens I am now in birmingham 3 days a week and will be needing things to do in spare time, are there any bike related places I should be going to? Shops? Cafes? Etc? Cheers all

  • Drink and fight? Or maybe crack?

  • PM Lynx - if I remember correctly that his part of the planet.

  • Or dfp

  • B'ham is Apathy Central, hardly anyone can be arsed to do anything, it's fucking horrendous.

Get out before you catch it too.

  • Bike related places you should be visiting?
    Polo on a wednesday evening.
    That my friend, is it.
I try and do most of my cycling away from Birmingham. Can't hack it at the moment.

  • Yep Ive been wandering around aimlessly for the last hour or so hoping to see someone I know or someone I cab shout "d.a.s!" at, ah well beats having to be in perry bar

  • Do your activities need to involve cycling?

There is not a huge amount of "must see" bike stuff.

You can come and play bike polo.

    You can visit halesowen track.

Creation skatepark or perr barr race track for BMXing.

Cycle speedway in perry barr or west brom.

Go on a group road ride. Either with informal groups like balsall heathens or one of the cycling clubs, or even the bike shop "birmingham city cycles" who do a road ride every sunday I think. The aussie chap (roadie douchbag type) is picky about who comes along I think.

You can visit the Brooks factory if you want.

void, you speaketh the truth. i felt like this loads when i was playing in bands, now i just accept it, get on with more boring things and work towards getting out. saying that 'night ridazz' ride coming soon...

edit: damn i thought i was being original with my cRaZY spelling and now i just found this: [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Ridazz[/ame]
anyway it wont be quite midnight but lights are a must...

  • I've lived (as in actually lived there as opposed to passed through) about ten cities in five countries... maybe more, I wasn't always paying attention...

Even back on the farm in the middle of the fucking desert there was more going on. I mean actually going on, not just ifs and maybes...

No idea why but that's how it is.

  • +1 Void.

  • i'm not sure either. i used to think it was because bham's traditionally an industrial city and this in my head translates to people having a mentality of focussing on working hard, saving money and getting on with things, etc but its 2010.

a farm in a desert has more going on? man thats saying something...

  • I noticed you say cafe.

That french one in Kings Heath (now opened is moseley too) is very good. Cannot remember what its called though.

    ooooooOOOOOOhhhh!

birminghamit*is*shit.com - it gets on my tits from time to time, particularly trying to get polo played by more than 6 people. compared to manchester and cambridge, our 'scene' is pathetic. i blame void and pastry lover for being the type of people who *should *play polo, but don't. too busy listening to kool keith and blogging, respectively.

Virgil - come play polo, wednesday nights (birminghambikepolo.com). PLEASE!!!!

  • ooooooOOOOOOhhhh!

wasn't boasting, was just trying to say that I know there are better places from experience.

    you tit.

    nobody mentioned alleycats yet?

    ...alleycats.

    with more prizes than entrants.

[insert tedious and predictable The Specials - Ghost Town video link here]

    :D

  • A relative of mine is the drummer in the specials...

  • Get out before you catch it too.

    I can't be arsed

I dont even like playing polo. It;s one of those things thats awesome but im not really into doing. And thats rare for me

  • that is strange. i always assume people think the oppposite with polo (great to play, poor to watch unless you're really into it).

polo is an odd thing for some cyclists (dan lj has talked about this) in that it's a team sport that's fiercely competetive and also a ball-game. lots of cyclists are opposed to all of those things.

prior to polo, i never really played team/ball-games (skating, snowboarding, mtb etc - all individual, non-competetive sports) but i guess it unleashed my inner hooligan.

still, before you write off your involvment as a player, you should sort your polo bike and play some proper games. it's changed a lot in brum over the last year.

    .

    me

  • Yeah you are right Dan. I did enjoy it both(!) times I played... just need some motivation
