  • The Ten Bells on Commercial Street, only because it has some history and also the Lamb and Flag in Covent Garden, possibly one of the oldest pubs in London, Jazz on Sundays as well.

  • The Wenlock? Demolished?! Waaaaaahhhhhh

The Commercial Tavern - Commercial Street; funked-out decor and Meantime brewery beers, London brewed and delish

  • The winchester,
    for a cornetto.

  • You'll have to be quick - it's set to be demolished in a couple of months.

Shit, is it happening that quickly?

  • The Commercial Tavern - Commercial Street; funked-out decor and Meantime brewery beers, London brewed and delish

And a whole cabinet plastered with photos of topless women!

oh fuck. I just discovered that, and started to really like it. I fucking hate the world when things like this happens

  • The Flying Scotsman on Cally Road. But haven't been in since doing the monopoly pub crawl. Was quite an experience

  • Pembury Tavern? Weird beers and ciders, board games and proper geek crowd ... and bikes inside the pub. They might not want 30+ bikes in there though.

The other day the barman asked a couple of people not to have their bikes inside... but then relented anyway. I think it's just numbers. You can lock to the inside of the smoking bit at least. Maybe not 30...

  • This "ride" (pub crawl) is looking promising.

Quirky pubs coming out of our ears !!

  • The Warrington Hotel in Maida Vale used to be very nice as well, it's gone steadily downhill since Gordon Ramsey has moved in, doesn't take away the fact that it has a great decor and the feel of a Victorian brothel.

  • Excellent idea...

The King's Arms, has the last remaining bit of the old medieval London Bridge on the front.

Jerusalem Tavern - tiny, quite old looking...

Mitre Inn - was once registered in Cambridge - so you can almost cycle to cambridge and back to london in a couple of feet, if you will...basically an administrative anomaly.

I've stolen all of these from that Realcycling blog.

The Mug House is quite quirky, under the eves of London Bridge. Also nearby is a smaller place under tower bridge, great views of the river directly under the bridge. Nice, but pricey...

  • The Mitre, supposedly London's hardest to find pub.

  • We're screwed then.

  • Nope because as London's most lost fucker, even I've found it.

  • Are we talking about Ye Olde Mitre? its on Chancery Lane and is one of the oldest pubs in london, great place, great home brewed beer.
Sorry only just clicked spybot's link

  • This sounds like it's going to turn into the real ale ride, which would be good.

  • the wenlock? Demolished?! Waaaaaahhhhhh

    +1

    +!

  • this sounds like a wicked ride. I'm fairly new to London, so don't know any quirky pubs yet, but this sounds like the perfect want to get introduced to them. Is there a date in mind yet?

  • The Wenlock? Demolished?! Waaaaaahhhhhh

    'Fraid so, kiddo: http://savethewenlock.blogspot.com/

I can't think of any part of London 'regeneration' that's made me sadder. The Wenlock is everything a pub should be and nothing it shouldn't. The Platonic ideal of beer distribution.

  • The Mitre and the land around it used to belong to the diocese of Ely, not cambridge. Cambridge doesn't have a cathedral or a bishop or nuffin. [/geek] If this is real ale ride should it include the Market Porter? Haven't been for years, not since they started employing security to keep the creatives off the road... Maybe time for a revisit.

Market Porter is nice but it's not really 'quirky' for anything is it? What about the other one nearby that is meant to be the smallest pub in London or something?

  • Aha, like Ely Place: not actually in London, nor in the LB of Camden, so I've heard, but technically part of Ely, it was the Bishop of Ely's residence. Presumably why the oub is named after something ecclesiatical. Ely Place is the site of Britain's only reconsecrated catholic church, St Ethelreda's.

  • I like this idea.

Which Intrepid Fox are we talking about? Cos there's a few.

Hopefully not the Soho one because it's now a burger bar.
